Pamaskong Anyaya
Bukas Palad Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Maghintay sa pagsilang ng Kamahal-mahalan
Ihanda ang sarili at ang buong sambayanan
Pagtutunggali'y kalimutan
Pagmamaramot ay talikdan
Anyayahan sa puso't isip Siyang huwaran

Do'n sa silangan Niya, tanawin tuwina
Halimbawa ng payak na buhay
Ating iwasan ang pagnanasang lahat ay kamtin
Buhay Niya ang mithiin
Papayapa ang mundo kung tayo'y magbago't (KORO)

Do'n sa silangan Niya, tanawin tuwina
Ang pasakit ng Kristong sumapit
Sa karukhaa'y nagmula Magandang Balita ng Diyos
Bugtong na Anak ng Diyos
Hindi mo man mahigtan, sarili'y ihanda't (KORO)

Kalimita'y nalulunod tayo sa rangya
Ng paghahanda sa araw ng sangnilikha
Kung babalik tayo sa pinagmulan Niya
Higit na makabuluhan ang pagdiriwang (KORO)

Anyayahan sa puso't isip Siyang huwaran!

Overall Meaning

The song "Pamaskong Anyaya" by Bukas Palad is a beautiful piece that speaks of the invitation to prepare for the birth of Jesus, set against the backdrop of traditional Filipino Christmas celebrations. The first verse calls for people to wait for the coming of Jesus, the most beloved of all, and to prepare themselves as a community. The focus then shifts to the idea of leaving behind conflict and envy and opening our hearts and minds to embrace Jesus Christ as our example.

The second verse speaks of looking towards the East, where the simplest yet most meaningful way of living can be found. We should avoid the temptation to desire material possessions and focus instead on living a Christ-centered life. This concept is reinforced in the chorus, emphasizing the need for personal and collective transformation for a peaceful world. The final verse speaks of our tendency to get caught up in the grandeur of Christmas preparations, but it prompts us to look back to the humble beginnings of our faith and celebrate with greater significance.

Overall, "Pamaskong Anyaya" is a call for us to return to the true meaning of Christmas, reflecting on the life of Jesus Christ and committing to transforming ourselves to live like Him.

Love this Advent song so much. Reflects on what should be our proper attitude in preparation for Christ's Incarnation during the Christmas Season. Marami tayong pinagaabalahan sa buhay, at marami tayong "distraction" na nagiging hadlang upang ihanda natin ang ating puso't isipan para maghari siyang nagkatawang-tao sa ating mga buhay.

This song also wishes to teach us that the Season of Advent is also a time to cease from conflicts, hatred, tensions, wars, violence, injustice, selfishness, greed, pride, and other sins that destroy our relationship from God and his creation. For Jesus is our Prince of Peace. Amen.
