This women's choir has performed practically everywhere: on the Red Square in Moscow, at the award ceremony of the Nobel Peace Prize in Stockholm and at the Vatican. The cryptic, mysterious, perhaps even somewhat mystical quality that characterises the choir's sound arises primarily from the singers' preference for a second voice which is maintained a slight interval to the leading melody.
This results in a kind of nearly-dissonant friction as well as a great radiant power, as of an unfolded colour spectrum: The singers' voices fan out into a colourfully glowing sound palette that plays with overtone resonance. As a result, "Angelite" offers something that goes far beyond common folk music: It is the artful and skilful enhancement of traditional elements to form a style which - despite its a great affinity with the folklore of Bulgaria - can be considered a category of its own. On the one hand it possesses an "authentic" sound, i.e. preserves the heritage; on the other hand it has advanced into the sphere of art music.

Wow they sound so good! I'm bulgarian and I am so happy that choirs are singing bulgarian stuff, especially this song that I LOVE!
Like the other commenter basically said, the sassy acting for this piece was not cool or justified by the lyrics :/
francesco lobina
yes, does not compare with the hyeratic posture of original bulgarian choirs

Their voices sound awesome! They did go sharp, but awesome pitch and everything. I’m not sure about the acting tho and I’m not even Bulgarian 😅

The speed this was taken at is fantastic, and in in love with the liveliness of the conductor- I think her energy really helped the energy of the ensemble overall. However, the hands on hips, finger snapping, and head wobbling (I see you, girl in the back!) are not related to the performance. In the Russian culture around the time this was written, a wedding was a mourning event because the family was "giving away" a daughter. The women in this group certainly did not express that! Overall a fantastic performance. Great pitch. Work on those postures ladies, you're all very talented! xx

You're right about everything except that this is a Bulgarian song. Completely different from Russian music.

operamusicfan right. Realized that after I made the comment haha

Dear Kortney,Bulgarian culture is from year 681 and does not have nothing to do with the Russian culture. That why,the wedding is a most happy and joyful event in every bulgarian family. Therefore, the singing girls perfectly expressed the feelings and attitudes in one Bulgarian wedding. Greeting from Bulgaria.

Isn't there a different between feeling happy, and just feeling full of yourself? When my baba got married in Bulgaria, they were all happy but her parents were also sad as they were giving their daughter away. These girls just look like they want to show off how snooty they are.

Val Penchev the lyrics are about the anxiety a groom feels before his wedding and the dark fog that surrounds him. So...
