Wegue, wegue wegue wegue
Wegue, wegue wegue wegue
Wegue, wegue wegue wegue
Wegue, wegue wegue wegue
Wegue, wegue wegue wegue
Wegue, wegue wegue wegue

Quando eu entro o palco se move,
Talento aqui chove,
Claro que o povo me ouve
Sou Pongolove
Estou com a Buraka
Abro a fronteira
NĆ£o digo lixo
Nem digo asneira
No microfone sou a primeira
Vou levantar a minha bandeira

Angola o mundo cobiƧa
Mas Ʃ o povo que te enfeitiƧa
A Pong no beat capricha
Porque sou rara tipo welwitchia
Sou mesmo eu a dama ngaxi muito agressiva
Me derrubar nem com macumba
Sou criativa

A Buraka Ć© que estĆ” a cuiar
Sai fora
Pongolove Ć© que esta a bater
VĆ£o se embora

Wegue, wegue wegue wegue
SĆ£o piada
Wegue, wegue wegue wegue
Novo esquema

Wegue
Wegue wegue wegue
Wegue
Wegue wegue wegue

Rima pesada
Tipo embondeiro
Eu faƧo o que eu quero
Canto para Angola
E para o mundo inteiro
No kuduro impero

Sou palanca negra gigante
Sigo a passada de Njinga Mbandi
Sigo a corrente do Dande

Logro o feitiƧo de TomƩ Grande

Por no mapa Oxaena
Terra de grandes nomes do semba
Arraso tipo kalemba
Sou de Angola como a mulemba

Mano jukula
(Kimbundu)
Mambo exclusivo
Toque de Angola
(Kimbundu)

A Buraka Ć© que estĆ” a cuiar
Sai fora
Pongolove Ć© que esta a bater
VĆ£o se embora

Wegue, wegue wegue wegue
SĆ£o piada
Wegue, wegue wegue wegue
Novo esquema

Wegue, wegue wegue wegue
Wegue, wegue wegue wegue

A Buraka Ć© que estĆ” a cuiar
Sai fora
Pongolove Ć© que esta a bater
VĆ£o se embora

Wegue, wegue wegue wegue
SĆ£o piada
Wegue, wegue wegue wegue

A Buraka Ć© que estĆ” a cuiar

Overall Meaning

The song "Kalemba" by Buraka Som Sistema feat. DJ Edgar is a celebration of Angola's cultural identity and a call to assert their claim to their music and place in the global stage. The repetition of "wegue" throughout the song is a chant that rallies people to dance and express themselves, highlighting the importance of movement and rhythm in Angolan music. The verses are narrated by Pongolove, a female rapper who asserts her unique and fierce personality in her rhymes. She claims she is the first to grab the microphone and declare her voice, representing her people, culture, and home. She recognizes that Angola is coveted by the world for its talent but emphasizes that the power is in the people, and they are the ones who enchant and captivate.

Pongolove connects her music to historic figures that have helped shape Angola's identity, referencing Njinga Mbandi and the Dande river. She also speaks to the power of music to conjure up magic, mentioning TomƩ Grande and Oxaena, acknowledging the influence of spiritual and mystical practices in local culture.

In summary, the song is a proud and powerful assertion of Angolan cultural identity, calling on people to move and express themselves in their unique way. Pongolove represents the voice of her people, recognizing the influence of past and present figures that have contributed to making Angola a vibrant and culturally rich country.

Searched the full translation online. I speak fluent portuguese, but Pong uses a sharp angolian accent which im not used to. Take the translation with a grain of salt, some of it isn't right.
