You Said
Busted Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Your so fit,
And you know it,
And I only dream of you,
'Cause my life's,
Such a bitch,
But you can change it.

Maybe you need,
Somebody just like me,
Don't turn me down,
'Cause I've got no car,
And I've got no money.

I asked you to dance at the disco,
But you said no!
The whole world was watching,
And laughing,
On the day that I crased and burned,
At your feet.

Since,
The day,
That you dissed me,
I'm feeling so pathetic.
'Cause the guys,
Well they've ditched me,
And it's all beacuase of,

You and your friends,
Are laughing at me now,
You think that I'm nothing,
Ask your sister what your missing!

I asked you to dance at the disco,
But you said no!
The whole world was watching,
And laughing,
On the day that I crased and burned,
At your feet.

Maybe you think that your too good for me,
Tonight when you get home your gonna see,
I know,
I've got,
Somthing better than you baby.

Na na na na,
Na na na na,
Na na na na.

Na na na na,
Na na na na,
Na na na na.

I asked you to dance at the disco,
But you said no!
The whole world was watching,
And laughing,
On the day that I crased and burned,
At your feet.

I asked you to dance at the disco,
But you said no!
The whole world was watching,
And laughing,

On the day that I crased and burned,
At your feet.

Overall Meaning

"You Said" is a song by English pop punk band Busted. The song was written by James Bourne and co-written and produced by Steve Robson. The song was released in 2003 as part of their debut album "Busted." The lyrics of the song talk about unrequited love and rejection.

The first verse of "You Said" talks about the singer's admiration for someone who is "so fit" and knows it. The singer dreams of being with this person and changing their "bitch" life. In the second verse, the singer suggests that the person needs someone like him but fears rejection because he has no car or money. The chorus of the song talks about how the person rejected the singer's offer to dance at the disco, which caused him to feel pathetic and get laughed at by everyone. The bridge of the song is a taunt to the person who rejected him, stating that she is missing out and that the singer has something better.

The song's theme of unrequited love and rejection resonated with many young people at the time of its release, with its catchy guitar riffs and relatable lyrics. The song was a hit and peaked at number 15 on the UK Singles Chart.

JORDÁN Ó SIRIDEÁIN

You Said No" is about being rejected at a disco by a girl and feeling humiliated. The song was first recorded under the title "Crash and Burn", and this version was included on the first pressing of Busted. The title of the song was changed in the aftermath of the Columbia Shuttle disaster of February 2003, as the original name was deemed "inappropriate". In an interview with Newsround, Matt Willis said, "We were deciding what single to go for just as that happened and we really wanted to use Crash and Burn but we thought the name was inappropriate - it would have been bad taste."[1] The song was renamed "You Said No", slightly reworked, and this version was subsequently released as a single and included on further pressings of Busted.

In 1000 UK Number One Hits by Jon Kutner and Spencer Leigh, James Bourne recalled: "I remember we sat down for a writing session and Charlie was talking about being blown out by a girl. He said 'I crashed and burned' which was something I had never heard before. Then we tied it in with a song we already had about a girl who was so fit and she knew it and we renamed it 'You Said No.'"
