Inflammation (redness/swelling/sensitivity/pain) is basically increased blood supply to tissue.
It's our bodies reaction to 'invasion' by foreign substances. Infection, foreign bodies, toxins (poisonous substances),that kind of thing.
It can also happen if tissue is simply damaged/injured.

There is an auto immune condition called H.S. where people develop Inflammation very easily, from things a minor as a skin rub,a knock, a tiny pimple.
It's more common in younger women who carry too much weight and particularly those who are diabetics (like this lady).
I would guess there was no real Infection, but there was a lot of Inflammation (possibly due to a 'rub' injury given where this is).
When MrPopzit cut the patients skin, all this blood from the inflammation could drain out, but no pus,because no Infection.
I hope she had further tests, and treatment to prevent this happening again 🙏

I’m not diabetic, but I am one year post op from a breast reduction (34K to 34DDD) and one of the criteria that helps surgeons determine medical necessity for a breast reduction is actually skin issues like abscesses, fungal infections, redness, irritation, etc. I thankfully had only had a few teeny whiteheads (I guess?) here and there underneath my boobs and between them, but that was still significant enough for my surgeon to note in her assessment. Obviously back and neck pain and headaches were my main reasons for getting the surgery, but I was surprised at how seriously my surgeon took even my minor skin issues. She told me while I waited to do my best to keep the area dry and clean at all times. I know surgery can be more complicated with diabetics, but so can skin infections. If you’ve ever wondered about getting a breast reduction, don’t hesitate to ask your doctor! It could potentially prevent skin infections due to breast size and it also will change your life for the better, I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I had a nasty abscess in my breast when I was in my early twenties. I had to have surgery on it (under general anesthesia), so from experience, I can tell you this lady is in a LOT of pain. I really feel for her. She's one tough cookie for sure!

I concur. In my 20's I had mastitis ( infection/abscess of the milk ducts) 2 times. My daughter had 4 teeth at 4 months and accidentally bit me. 102° fever & vomiting & Er visits. The pain is brutal. No surgery but lots of antibiotics,heat compresses & continued breast feeding to empty the glands. It's so painful.

I imagine she felt so much better immediately. I have had extremely inflamed lumps on my breast due to HS. They were the most painful thing I’ve ever felt. The pain not only radiated like it normally had for HS, it radiated and would not cease down my arm. I imagine she was so grateful to have it addressed and medicated.

Type 2 diabetic- I had this happen about 15 years ago and they said it was just an infection. And put me on antibiotics. Didn’t know I was diabetic at the time. It was seriously painful! Thanks for sharing ❤

I breastfed all 6 of my children. I had mastitis 13 times. It's like having the body aches of the flu with a hot poker stuck in your swollen breast, and you gave to continue to nurse a baby on that. I felt this woman's pain! I hope she felt a lot of relief, and that this healed quickly! 🥺💕

I suffer daily chronic pain from multiple sources and I’m pretty stoic about it. However, I still remember 29 years ago when my fourth baby was two months old and I left him with his grandmother to go to Disneyland. The next day I woke up, and my one of my breasts was bright red, swollen and just throbbing with every pulse of my heartbeat. I had to go on antibiotics, and was told to nurse the baby every two hours. I remember finding a rubber spatula and having to bite down on it when my baby latched on. It was utter agony, and it was everything I could do to keep nursing him. I can only imagine how painful this stupid abscesses is. I hope she gets it resolved and doesn’t have to deal with it anymore. Peace, AM

OUCH! I know that had to hurt like hell! I once got a small little pimple or sore or ingrown hair ( not sure what it was exactly ) under my breast one summer and it was awful. I think it may have been caused by wearing sports bras that were a little too tight for a few weeks during our daily summer volleyball practice in high school. We practiced outside in the Florida heat during July and August so you can imagine how sweaty we got. . I’m guessing that the sweating and rubbing made it even worse and it got infected. For weeks it got larger and larger and much harder. It finally grew to about the size of a dime and was so sore and so hot. I couldn’t even wear a bra anymore and even wearing a shirt and showering hurt it. I couldn’t lift my arms without wincing! My mom finally popped it and treated it topically and although it made a giant mess, it felt SO much better afterwards. But before that it was so painful. Mine was nothing compared to this lady’s and I can really imagine what she was feeling like. I bet she feels much, much better now.

I feel for this lady. As I know first hand how painful this is. I have had this done twice, once following a lumpectomy on left breast then a couple of years later on my right. There aren't any words to describe the pain. Best wishes and speedy recovery.

My mom had a lumpectomy for stage 1 breast cancer. After radiation, she ended up with a bad abcess. She in the hospital for almost a week on IV antibiotics. Was on a wound vac for several months because of how deep it was.

Problem with PAs? I recommended imaging to that breast the very first time I saw her, but she didn’t go. I reiterated my warnings and told her the next time she has to get this done, it could be something very serious and she finally scheduled the appointment. Sometimes patients do not always listen to recommendations, it’s actually pretty common. I mentioned it in the video even. All you can do as a provider is strongly recommend it and document your recommendations, then it’s up to the patient to heed your warnings. Not sure I see the correlation where there is a “problem with PAs”in this interaction.

While nursing two babies, I was lucky to have had only one infection with the second one, but I had a very high fever. The doctor gave me an antibiotic and thank goodness it worked, seeing what the alternative might have been.

In my personal experience as a diabetic and a person of size, yeast tends to flourish on our sweet sweet flesh; after maybe 30 events like this in areas dark and moist I have become hyper sensitive to yeast a little scratch and something blows up now I keep some prescription ointment on the skin of these areas and I can’t even remember an inflamed area

I dab Calamine lotion under my breasts and use small, thin panty liners on the inside of my bra cups and the elastic band if I'm wearing a bra. At night, I apply any one of three different prescribed antifungal creams, then apply a little Nystatin prescription powder over it. I hate the feeling and the staining that yeast creams leave when I'm wearing a bra. Also, I use only TALC powder on my body after a shower; when most of the manufacturers switched to cornstarch, I started having more problems bc it seems cornstarch feeds yeast. TALC powders can be found in the Gold Bond brand; they smell a little macho at first, but the smell dissipates very quickly.

When I had ‘sweeter skin’ spots, I fixed the moisture and chafing by applying just a layer of antiperspirant (not ‘deodorant’ by definition, and I prefer cream/stick version than spray, but spray works also, let it dry well though) in those creases, between the thighs, etc. Never had any issue after starting doing that. Not even ingrown hairs. If your skin is too sensitive (unlikely since we pretty much all use antiperspirant daily already) maybe try the antiperspirant (spray) made for our couchies, by the same brand that primarily makes gentle soap for our sensitive feminine parts, etc. Since it’s made for our acknowledge most sensitive skin, it could be better.
I don’t have my creases anymore, not rn, but I still do this to avoid excessive sweating.. I’ve grown into it, it’s more comfortable during summer, it gets so hot and humidity is crazy here. I application in the crotch still makes wonders lol

Oh Dr. Greg, this scard the crap out of me! I'm diabetic, but without lesions, I have gotten diabetic infections in my lower to mid legs several times in the past. I never thought of this happening!

Thanks for info. Is HS Hydradenitis suppurative? (Not sure of spelling) Mr PopZit has shown and talked about that. I feel bad for those patients. Looks painful and a hard to treat.

@Kell Bell yes,it is. I have trouble with the spelling as well 😚.
It's a very strange condition, and even though l've tried doing some Googleing about it (as an ex nurse inflammation fascinates me) l still haven't (yet) found anything that really explains why it happens.
My conclusion is that medical sicence doesn't yet know.
But then, the more you find out about medicine, the more you realise that there are some big 'gaps' in it's knowledge
Our bodies are pretty complicated . Glad l only nursed 😄

Hi Dr. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️you and your channel! This just happened to me exact same thing.However, I had to stay in the hospital bc the oral antibiotics didn’t work.I had to get intravenous.I am type 2 diabetic.This thing on my breast was so painful🥲now,all cleared up 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

When breastfeeding my newborn I wound up with mastitis. Still had to feed the baby through it! Oh the pain. Fortunately I didn’t need to be cut but I still remember the blood and milk coming out of me. Oh the things we do for love.

I know the pain and the relief of these. I feel for anyone that has them. I have them way to often.The pain is almost unbearable but the relief is amazing.

As someone who has had a blocked duct while breastfeeding I can sympathise with how painful that would be. I was able to treat mine to clear the blockage whereas this lady didn’t have that option. I wonder if her bra is rubbing in that spot, irritating the area and contributing to the problem? I hope it stays cleared up for her this time.

I'm not diabetic, but I had one that popped up under my right breast when I was 3 months pregnant. What's weird is that one had pus, but the one that showed up above my left butt cheek was HUGE and very painful. Even weirder? My son was 8 months old and he had a couple of them on his inner thighs that were extremely painful at the exact same time. The one above my butt cheek grew to the size of a baseball and when it drained a couple of weeks later it drained about 2 cups of pus and blood.
