Boucher, born June 2, 1979, is the middle child of seven daughters. The name "Butterfly" was a suggestion from a friend of the family. Her mother didn't initially like the name but kept seeing butterflies in pictures, on clothing, etc. before the birth. In later years, Butterfly's sister had a band, The Mercy Bell, in which Butterfly played bass guitar. In 2004 and 2005, Boucher toured the U.S. and Canada, opening for Sarah McLachlan and Barenaked Ladies.
Butterfly currently resides in the United States. She released her first track of the album, "I Can't Make Me," in the UK first. It did poorly. However, when she released that track along with "Another White Dash," her U.S. success was assured. While a second album is in the pipeline, there is no official date for its release.
Boucher sang David Bowie's "Changes" with Bowie on the soundtrack for Shrek 2.
Boucher sang "I'm Different" on the "For The Kids Too" CD which was released in 2004 and is currently available on iTunes.
A remix of Boucher's single, "I Can't Make Me" is featured on "Charmed: The Book Of Shadows," a soundtrack from the television show on The WB.
Boucher's songs "Life is Short" and "Never Leave Your Heart Alone" were featured on the hit show "Grey's Anatomy" during the first season. And the track "Bitter Song" was featured during season 3 of that same show.
From July 22 to Aug 6, 2008, Boucher toured with nine other artists from Tennessee as part of the Ten out of Tenn tour.

Never Leave Your Heart Alone
Butterfly Boucher Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
For distraction
You found all the words you need
Well I found nothing
I just grumble
'Cause I don't know what I feel
The moral to the story goes
Never leave your heart, alone
Run for shelter
An umbrella
Fights the rain but not the wind
And I'd be silly
To start preaching
'Cause I don't know which point to make!
The moral to the story goes
Never leave your heart
In a box
Locked up
With cold cold ice
Never leave your heart
Never leave your heart, alone
Am I frozen?
But it's summer!
Is that rain or is it me?
Yes I'm melting
Please be happy
One day
We just might swim
The moral to the story goes
Never leave your heart
In a box
Locked up with cold cold ice
Never leave your heart
Never leave your heart
Never leave your heart alone
The song "Never Leave Your Heart Alone" by Butterfly Boucher speaks of vulnerability, uncertainty and the importance of staying true to oneself. The first verse starts with the idea that even when someone is looking for distractions, they still have found the words they need. Conversely, the singer grumbles and is unsure of what they feel. It is a portrayal of how we sometimes project a sense of having everything together when, in reality, we might be struggling internally.
The chorus is where the message of the song is most emphasized - that is, to never leave one's heart alone. This means not closing oneself off, not locking one's heart in a box with cold ice, and not giving up on love. It's a reminder to stay open to the possibilities of genuine connections, to not be cynical, to take risks, and to embrace the unknown.
The second verse describes the way an umbrella can protect us from the rain but not the wind and the uncertainty that encompasses it. Similarly, the singer admits being unable to preach about what is right because they do not know where to start.
The final verse speaks of melting even in summer, implying that the singer may be experiencing conflicting emotions that are not entirely weather-related. After all, it's not always easy to know whether we are dancing in the rain or whether the rain is pouring down on us. The lyrics suggest that we should always be ready to take the risk of melting, opening up our hearts, and letting someone in.

I just grumble
I'm complaining because I'm not sure how I feel
'Cause I don't know what I feel
I'm confused and don't understand my own emotions
The moral to the story goes
This is the lesson to be learned
Never leave your heart
Always stay true to yourself
Never leave your heart, alone
Don't neglect your inner feelings and thoughts
Run for shelter
Seek refuge from the storm
An umbrella
Can protect you from the rain
Fights the rain but not the wind
But it can't protect you from the unpredictable forces of nature
And I'd be silly
I would be foolish
To start preaching
To give advice when I'm not sure what to say
'Cause I don't know which point to make!
Because I'm unsure of what to say
Never leave your heart
Always stay true to yourself
In a box
Don't hide or suppress your emotions
Locked up
Because they will only cause you pain
With cold cold ice
If you don't let them out and express them
Never leave your heart
Always stay true to yourself
Never leave your heart
Don't neglect your inner feelings and thoughts
Never leave your heart alone
Don't let your emotions consume you, but don't ignore them either
Am I frozen?
Am I stuck or unable to express myself?
But it's summer!
Even when things should be easier
Is that rain or is it me?
I'm not sure if I'm the problem
Yes I'm melting
I'm starting to break down and express myself
Please be happy
I hope that being honest will bring happiness
One day
Eventually
We just might swim
We'll be able to enjoy life and be happy

I'm adding this to the playlist I named "Songbirds." I want to hear this again and again. This is a beautiful lady with a beautiful voice and a song to match. Too bad we don't hear many Aussie singers, because I've heard a bunch of good ones lately, and Butterfly is one of the best.

I dedicate this to Clara Oswald in Doctor Who. It just came to me that her and the Doctor's relationships with people are reflected in these lyrics. Aww
