Live And Let Die
Byron Lee & The Dragonaires Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And your heart was an open book
You used to say live and let live
You know you did
You know you did
You know you did
But if this ever changin' world
In which we live in
Say live and let die
Live and let die
What does it matter to ya
When you got a job to do you got to do it well
You got to give the other fella hell
You used to say live and let live
You know you did
You know you did
You know you did
But if this ever changin' world
In which we live in
Makes you give in and cry
Say live and let die
Live and let die
The lyrics to "Live and Let Die" by Byron Lee and the Dragonaires talk about the idea of living life with an open heart, and accepting the differences of others. The first stanza talks about how when someone is young, they often believe in the idea of "live and let live." This essentially means that people should be allowed to live their lives the way they want to without interference or judgement from others.
However, the second stanza talks about how this ideal can change as people grow older and encounter the many challenges of life. The lyrics suggest that the ever-changing world we live in can make people give up and become defeated, but the solution is to still live life with courage and integrity, even if it means facing difficulties and hardships.
The overall message of the song is that we should live life to the fullest and embrace all that it has to offer, even if it means having to overcome obstacles and challenges along the way.

Byron Lee covering this song which is a famous Bond theme is fitting as he also recorded music for Dr. No, an earlier Bond film. Lee and the Dragonaires even appear in the film performing a calypso style song called 'Jump Up'. RIP Mr. Lee.
