"Call the Man" was written by Andy Hill and Peter Sinfield who already wrote for Dion her 1995 smash hit "Think Twice," and produced by Jim Steinman who also worked on her previous single "It's All Coming Back to Me Now."
The music video was directed by Greg Masuak in 1995 and already used for two other songs in edited versions: "Je sais pas" and "Next Plane Out."
The single was released during the second European leg of the Falling into You Tour and peaked at number 8 in Ireland and 11 in the United Kingdom.
On April 17, 1997 Céline Dion performed "Call the Man" with a 30-voice gospel choir during the World Music Awards ceremony. She was the big star of that evening, winning three awards: Best-selling Canadian Female Singer, Best-selling Artist and Best-selling Pop Artist, after selling over 25 million albums in 1996. It was the second year in a row that Dion has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide.
In 2008, "Call the Man" was included on the European version of My Love: Ultimate Essential Collection.

Shut the world away
All the fight's gone from this wounded heart
Across the floor
Dreams and shadows play
Like wind blown refugees
(Call) call the man
He can heal the world
Of hearts in need of care
(Shine) shine a light ahead
When the next step is unclear
Call the man
He's needed here
I close my eyes
I remember when
Your sweet love filled this empty room
The tears I cry
Won't bring it back again
Unless the lonely star should fall
(Call) call the man
Who deals in love beyond repair
He can heal the world
Of hearts in need of care
(Shine) shine a light ahead
When the next step is unclear
Call the man
He's needed here
Needed in the chaos and confusion
From the plains to City Hall
Needed where the proud who walk the wire are set to fall
Woah, call the man
Who deals in once upon a time
Maybe he
Can mend this broken heart of mine
Shine a light ahead
Now the future isn't clear
It isn't clear
Call the man
He's needed here
Call the man
He's needed here
He's needed here
Right here, right now, yeah, yeah, yeah
He's needed here, right here
Right here
He's needed here, right here, right now, yeah
The lyrics to Celine Dion's song "Call the Man" touch on themes of heartbreak, loss, and the search for healing. The song opens with the singer expressing their desire to shut out the world and withdraw into themselves, as their heart feels too wounded to continue fighting. The dreams and shadows that play across the floor are likened to refugees blown by the wind, a poignant metaphor for the singer's own sense of displacement and disorientation.
The titular "man" that the singer calls upon is someone who deals in "love beyond repair", suggesting that he is a figure of great power and expertise when it comes to healing broken hearts. He is described as being able to "heal the world / Of hearts in need of care", emphasizing the universal nature of the suffering that the song is addressing. The lines "Needed in the chaos and confusion / From the plains to City Hall" suggest that this man's healing powers are urgently needed in all corners of society, not just in the singer's individual life.
The second verse of the song is more personal, as the singer remembers a time when their heart was filled with "sweet love" that is now gone. The image of the "lonely star" that might fall captures the sense of hopelessness and despair that comes with losing love, and reinforces the idea that the man who deals in heart-healing is desperately needed.
Overall, "Call the Man" is a powerful and emotive song that speaks to the universal experience of heartbreak and the search for comfort and healing. The singer recognizes that they cannot go it alone, and calls upon a higher power to help them find their way back to love and happiness.

I lost my mother and my father too soon. I was so young. I always cry when I hear "I close my eyes, I remember when your sweet love filled this empty room. The tears I cry won't bring it back again" 😢😢😢 I miss them so much. And, yes, I think that "the man" is God who answers when you lost someone so important to you.
