Béatrice has played the piano since the age of three, which was initiated by her mother, a professional pianist. She later played as a keyboardist in the post-hardcore band December Strikes First when she was 15 years old. In March 2007, after five years of music education, she started composing her own songs.
After a brief stint as keyboardist for Bonjour Brumaire, a French-Canadian Indie Rock/Indie Pop band, she released her solo debut album Cœur de pirate in 2008 on the Québécois independent record label Grosse Boîte. The album found much critical acclaim and was subsequently nominated for Francophone Album of the Year at the 2009 Juno Awards.

Of worlds today
The light of the sundown's on my fate
And we're tried and true
Our souls we bare
You promised to love me for some time
So don't let me fall, don't let me fall
Don't let me fall, don't let me fall your way
And carry on
Just cross the waters, I'll be okay
'Cause I've been loved, I've been loved enough today
I know your fears are hidden well beneath your wind
So don't be long, leave me here, let me belong
Let me belong
In darkness, we rise
At twilight, we sway
Only then do we feel alive
The verve we once had
Lies in the bay
I hear it yelling for our lives
So don't let me fall, don't let me fall
Let the nighttime come this way
Don't let me fall, don't let me fall your way
And carry on
Just cross the waters, I'll be okay
'Cause I've been loved, I've been loved enough today
I know your fears are hidden well beneath your wind
So don't be long, leave me here, let me belong
Let me belong
So don't you let me fall, so don't you let me fall
Let the nighttime come its way
And carry on
Just cross the waters, I'll be okay
'Cause I've been loved, I've been loved enough today
I know your fears are hidden well beneath your wind
So don't be long, leave me here, let me belong
Let me belong
The lyrics to Cœur de Pirate's song "Carry On" speak of the bond between two individuals who sit on the edge of the world, watching the sundown as they share their souls with each other. The singer's lover promises to love her, but there is a sense of uncertainty and fear reflected in the singer's voice. Throughout the song, the singer pleads with her lover to not let her fall, to let her belong, and to cross the waters to keep moving forward. The singer acknowledges that her lover's fears are hidden beneath his wind and encourages him to move forward as well.
The song captures the intensity of love, trust, and vulnerability that exists between two individuals in a relationship. The singer's plea to not let her fall represents her need for her lover to provide her with stability and support. The lyrics "I've been loved enough today" suggest that the singer is aware of the fleeting nature of love and recognizes the importance of cherishing it while she has it.
Overall, "Carry On" is a song that speaks to the power of love and the importance of navigating the challenges of life together with someone by your side.

Your love has sustained me thus far
I know your fears are hidden well beneath your wind

The verve we once had
The energy and excitement we previously had
Lies in the bay
Is now dormant or hidden
I hear it yelling for our lives
I sense a call to reignite our passion
So don't you let me fall, so don't you let me fall
Repeating the plea for support
Let the nighttime come its way
Accepting the difficulties of life
Leave me here, let me belong
Allow me to find my place and purpose

On défie l'ennui
Du monde à nos grès
Le soleil s'éteint sur nos destins
On court à l'échec

It doesn't matter whether it's English or French, her voice is equally mesmerizing.

Je suis québécois jusqu'à la moelle et pourtant j'aime mieux sa version anglaise... comme plus assumée. Comble du paradoxe, j'ai entendu cette version pour la première fois à Avignon en France... pas surprenant vous me direz ;-)

This version has a lot of meaning for me. It played often when our son, Philip, was dying of cancer. I quoted the chorus at his celebration of life and i will always remember him when i play this.
