Eu quero passar
Pois o samba est animado
O que eu quero sambar
Este samba
samba de preto velho
Samba de preto tu
Mas que nada
Um samba como esse to legal
Voc no vai querer
Que eu chegue no final
The lyrics to C.A.M. Orchestra's song "Mas Que Nada" represent the upbeat and lively energy of samba music. The singer urges anyone in their way to move aside so that they may join in the animated samba dancing that is taking place. The lyrics also reference the mix of different styles that make up samba music, including maracatu and the samba of the preto velho, a reference to the African slaves who helped create the genre. The song is meant to convey the joy and infectious spirit of samba, inviting all to join in the celebration.
One fascinating aspect of "Mas Que Nada" is that it was originally written and performed by Brazilian musician Jorge Ben Jor in 1963. The song became a hit both within Brazil and internationally, and has since been covered by numerous artists in a variety of musical genres. The C.A.M. Orchestra's version of the song was used in the 1998 film "Meet Joe Black," helping to bring the joy of samba to a wider audience.
Another interesting fact about "Mas Que Nada" is that the title is a Portuguese slang phrase that roughly translates to "yeah right" or "as if." The phrase is often used to express disbelief or skepticism, making it a somewhat ironic choice for a song that is meant to convey the exuberance and liveliness of samba music. Despite the use of this somewhat sarcastic phrase in the title, the song itself is a classic example of the energetic spirit of Brazilian music.
Chords: Unfortunately, it is impossible to provide the chords without the specific arrangement of the C.A.M. Orchestra or other specific arrangement being referred to. However, the original song by Jorge Ben Jor uses a combination of chords commonly found in samba music, including Am, Bb, and C.
