I am aware of every individual's sadness and empathize with them

Asking for when will the fear or apprehensiveness of individuals will end

What happened to family
Questioning the loss of true family bonds and connections

Where did the love go
Questioning where the feeling of love disappeared or why it has weakened

We try to be fancy
We strive to exhibit a showy or pretentious appearance

It wasn’t enough though
Despite trying to be showy, it did not suffice

We aim for the moon
We aspire for very high goals

Despite aiming high, we settle for something less than our goal

We try to be new
We try to be innovators or come out of norms

Just to change who we are
Despite trying to change, we remain the same people, deep down

We don’t understand what the preacher preaches
We refuse to understand religious/moral/spiritual teachings

And we don’t want to hear what the teacher teaches
We reject knowledge that could improve ourselves

We blocking our ears with our Twitter fingers
We ignore important things, replacing it with the use of social media

We believe that what we are doing is right in the grand scheme of things

All for the money
Motivated by money rather than anything else

All for the fame
Motivated by fame and popularity more than anything else

We think that we’re different, but we’re still the same
Despite thinking we are exceptional, we are all the same as human beings

Just a rat, running in circles, stuck in a maze
A metaphor for being stuck in the same monotonous life and routine

Too afraid, to say we’re afraid
We are too scared to acknowledge our fears

So we just drink all our problems away
We opt for unhealthy coping mechanisms to deal with our problems

Tomorrow the problems remain
Regardless of our actions, the issues still persist

We just want to hide to hide all the pain
We want to escape from our problems rather than face them head-on

Hoping tomorrow will change
We hope for a different outcome in the future

It’s only human to think that the pain is all part of the plan
Coping mechanism to make sense of the pain/sadness and accept it as unavoidable

It’s only human to think we’re alone and that nobody cares
Self-deprecating thought process; questioning our worth and the support we have

It’s only human to say you’re okay when your dying inside
Putting up a façade to hide one's internal sadness and struggles

It’s only human to act like I don’t see the pain in your eyes
Refusing to acknowledge other individuals' suffering to avoid getting involved

We look to the sky
Turning to a higher power to seek guidance and help

We pray to the savior
Asking for redemption or hope

We ask for redemption
Seeking forgiveness or a better outcome

But don’t change our behavior
Not making corresponding changes to better our current situation

Losing our values
Becoming less principled or grounded as individuals

And we do it for strangers
Sacrificing our morals and principles for the sake of others unknown to us
