The Lamb
C.S. Lewis Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We've been dispatched by God, sent to warn these wolves of His wrath
But they wanna put a sock in it, because we're mismatched
Since we have been whipped, dragged through streets, our skin ripped, stabbed
We've been fightin' fire, tryna have these burnin' sticks snatched
Takin' the gospel to the hostile, even if it'll cost all
Not seeing that they're beefin' with what they're breathin' through their nostrils
New Atheists hatin' this, they rage and diss, shakin' fists
At their Maker, ticked, they want everyone to be made to think they were apes and fish
Faiths that misunderstand who He is, with their lives, they wage against Him
Like those who think it's a service they offer their god when they slay Christians
Or wolves in sheep's clothes, or should I say fleece robes?
Who only take and give false teaching, they just pick
Whatever verses make 'em rich, like their Bibles have pages ripped
Cultists who claim they are the same, but they're lost, they stray from Scripts
Those emergin' who gravely twist the clear Word of God to make 'em grin
Those who make the truth out to be whatever they say it is
New Agers with skeptics and agnostics, stuck on maybe/if
All the shady tricks, hol(e)d up ... we won't cave to this!
We lowered our guard, let the enemy creep in with stealth
The moment we got comfy with our feelings and wealth
We are lambs sent to help tame the wild, tell 'em why God gave the Child
He chose this group of troops before we became defiled
So while we wait for our Shepherd to return
We will warn of the fire comin', we don't want you to be burned
We rep the Law fulfiller, we are Lambs Among Wolves
We'd have victory, even if we were ants among Hulk
'Cause when His wrath appears and it engulfs
His enemies, then they'll see the "big bang" that results
We rep the Law fulfiller, we are Lambs Among Wolves
We'd have victory, even if we were ants among Hulk
'Cause when His wrath appears and it engulfs
His enemies, then they'll see the "big bang" that results
I’m lost, I’m found
I’m lost again, I’m found again
I can’t begin to explain my
Frustrations with who I have been
I’m lost, I’m found
I’m lost again, I’m found again
I can’t begin to explain my
Frustrations with who I have been
I've fallen onto my knees, in my prayers, I ask for retreat
From these sins that I just repeat, sins that I just repeat
'Cause I’ve fallen into routines that are twisted, wicked, unclean
Scary visions are haunting me, must beware of the devil's schemes
On my journey, I’ve gone astray, told myself that I’d be okay
Hey, don’t worry, it’s just a phase, soon you’ll be feeling great
But the devil was taking aim, he was ready to dig my grave
I was falling into temptations, my faith, it had been degrading
It’s easy to feel defeated, to stay down and take the beating
But that’s not the reason you’re here, you’re not defeated
It’s Jesus who rose again, it’s through Him that I find my strength
'Cause of Him that I’ll be alright and be better right by His side
Hope is found through the Saviour’s name, grace is given, 'cause Jesus came
Loneliness, yeah, let that decay, accept Christ, He’s here to stay
Hope is found through the Saviour’s name, grace is given, 'cause Jesus came
Loneliness, yeah, let that decay, accept Christ, He’s here to stay
We rep the Law fulfiller, we are Lambs Among Wolves
We'd have victory, even if we were ants among Hulk
'Cause when His wrath appears and it engulfs
His enemies, then they'll see the "big bang" that results
We rep the Law fulfiller, we are Lambs Among Wolves
We'd have victory, even if we were ants among Hulk
'Cause when His wrath appears and it engulfs
His enemies, then they'll see the "big bang" that results
We stay wise like serpents, but harmless as doves
Lambs among the wolves, our struggle is a must
Bringing you the message Christ the Saviour had discussed
Before He bled and died a shameful way up on the cross
So that filthy men can rid themselves of all the dust
Leave behind the snares, sinfulness, and the lust, uhh
This is the time that we’re living in, there is no giving in
We tread a path that's narrow and it’s very thin
Cross that line, it’ll never be the same again
Seek this refuge and take heed, whoever’s listening
In case you be defiled by wolves that seek your very skin
Leading many astray, they pry and kill the innocent
There is no taming them, the blood stains them within
Leading lambs to the slaughter with lies and their cunning grins
Just like in the beginning, the devil brought his poison in
God had named it sin and it remained ever since
Evil lives by every inch, the world rotting in it's stench
God Himself came down and bruised the wicked wolf prince
Oh, men, won’t you repent? Rather, you’d interject
Prosperity and intellect to God's Word with no respect
Death, where is your sting? Wolves are no match for Him
He brings day where night is dim, fire and the whirling winds
His voice is thundering, you won’t get this chance again
Told you from the start, my friend, hail Christ the Lion King
We rep the Law fulfiller, we are Lambs Among Wolves
We'd have victory, even if we were ants among Hulk
'Cause when His wrath appears and it engulfs
His enemies, then they'll see the "big bang" that results
We rep the Law fulfiller, we are Lambs Among Wolves
We'd have victory, even if we were ants among Hulk

'Cause when His wrath appears and it engulfs
His enemies, then they'll see the "big bang" that results

Overall Meaning

The song "The Lamb" by C.S. Lewis is a powerful message about standing firm in one's faith and being a witness to the truth, even in the face of opposition and persecution. The lyrics are filled with references to false religions, cults, and ideologies that seek to lead people away from God, and the urgent need to share the good news of Jesus Christ with those who are lost. The singer describes the fierce struggle he and his fellow believers face as they try to "take the gospel to the hostile," and the dangers they encounter from those who want to silence them.

The lyrics also speak of the singer's personal struggles with sin and temptation, and the constant battle to stay true to his faith. He acknowledges that he has "fallen into routines that are twisted, wicked, unclean," but finds hope in the grace and forgiveness of Jesus Christ. The final verses of the song offer a powerful message of hope and triumph in the face of evil, as the singer declares that God will ultimately triumph over all his enemies and bring about a "big bang" of justice and righteousness.

Overall, "The Lamb" is a powerful and moving call to stand firm in one's faith, to be a witness to the truth even in the face of opposition, and to trust in the ultimate victory of God over all evil.

Any time I hear people use the term "woke" I cringe. I suggest you read C.S. Lewis' best work (i.m.o.) 'Merely Christian'. In it he says, "The devil always sends errors into the world in pairs--pairs of opposites. And he always encourages us to spend a lot of time thinking which is the worse. You see why, of course? He relies on your extra dislike of the one error to draw you gradually into the opposite one.”

I think we live in a scary time. I think there are a lot of people who look at the mainline churches and popular culture and say to themselves "we are SO right and they are SO wrong" and "aren't we SO much better than them"... as you refer to 'woke' (used in the pejorative term) you are doing exactly that. It is condescending and belittling - and I would argue - pleasing to the devil. I think there are segments of the evangelical world who, in an effort to distance themselves from the obvious errors of society and moral degeneration of many churches, actually back themselves into places that aren't much better. I would caution that we need to "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour." First Epistle of Peter (5:8)

Since this is a C.S. Lewis video I'll give you another quote from 'Merely Christian' regarding the vice of pride, "The vice I am talking of is Pride or Self-Conceit: and the virtue opposite to it, in Christian morals, is called Humility...According to Christian teachers, the essential vice, the utmost evil, is Pride. Unchastity, anger, greed, drunkenness, and all that, are mere flea bites in comparison: it was through Pride that the devil became the devil: Pride leads to every other vice: it is the complete anti-God state of mind.”

So rather than being an un-useful snarky individual, trying to plug political propaganda buzzwords into the comments section of a Christian video highlighting of the greatest Christian thinkers in the modern age, maybe you should try to act like a Christian and live by example and love your enemy, love your neighbor - instead of doing the devils work under the guise of God's by franticly condemning and judging people who you should be trying to save... “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven" Matthew 5:14-16...

Shame on you ... rise above the political BS and be better... you're a Christian...

Not a theologian; just another human Soul.

A few things stand out to me as incredibly relevant to our current situation.

Firstly, his clear lines of demarcation between the states of consciousness represented by the Old Testament vs the New Testament (this distinction has been on my mind lately, after considering that the PRE-Christian world - is the subject of the OT, and the Way, The Truth & The Light are represented by the NT)

The Reign of Moses:
LAW
JUSTICE
RIGOR

The Reign of Christ:
GRACE
MERCY
TENDERNESS

He likens the voices of the OT to those of children: ignorant, self-righteous, utterly without the ability to self-reflect. Perfectly certain that they are pure and worthy of Divine Intervention...Demanding that God smite their enemies with horrid and disgustingly vicious curses, unto their children's children.

In contrast, he hears the voices of the NT begging assistance to gain self-control, for the ability to extend mercy to our enemies even in the face of horrendous wrongdoing.

He likens the oppression of tyrants to seductions/temptations - not to the sexual misconduct so often associated with these words, but as temptations to descend into our own primal states of total hatred and lack of mercy toward those who wrong us. Tempting us to MORAL misconduct that 'ensavages', rather than enobles us.

Who has not felt the tug of this seduction? I certainly wrestle with it daily.

He also clarifies the difference between the Dark Night of the Soul and the Dark Night of the Flesh - many of the Psalmists were pleading for relief from their bodily and political sufferings. This is the suffering of the Flesh, and a plea to remedy it.

Those who endure the Dark Night of the Soul are pleading for relief from their own Spiritual Sins - and perhaps the difference between the two is precisely what distinguishes the childish idea of 'justice' from the mature one.

The Troubles we currently endure are designed precisely to elicit the fear, hatred and lust for retribution that characterize our basest impulses. They are satanically inspired seductions, engineered to prompt the Great Outrage that leads to ultimate violence.

I do not know how to navigate these times properly, but I suspect that this is a TEST in the fundamental sense of the word:
How we conduct ourselves in the face of the ultimate desecration of all we hold dear - this is our choice.

It's clear to me that those who experience the Dark Night of the Flesh and demand instant redress of wrongs, here and now, are better served by the summoning of demonic entities.

Enlisting Spiritual Mercenaries to smite one's enemies is indeed the most PRAGMATIC response to oppression. (To my mind, satanism/luciferianism can be summed up as dedication to the most expedient solutions to all difficulties, unencumbered by Grace, Mercy or Tenderness)

On the other hand, I stumble in the darkness when it comes to what the correct response to all this filth SHOULD truly be - are we to focus only on our own shortcomings, ignoring the vile menace to our families, communities, the very existence of humanity?

What say you?
What is the appropriate response?
How do we conduct ourselves so as to NOT succumb to the seductions?

Such God led intellect.
His voice is also very soothing.

Lewis' actual voice is slightly less soothing, but achingly more English.

All of our more well-known Psalms were rewritten or adapted and translated into English by Sir Francis Bacon during the late 16th and early 17th centuries. Sir Francis Bacon was also charged with the enormous task of organizing the translation known as The King James Bible, and also the production and distribution of all of the works attributed to William Shakespeare. This is why many of the Psalmes have a poetic Shakespearian ring to them, and also fit so easily within the King James Bible. The entire work was done at approximately the same time by a similar group of authors, poets, theologians, and mystics all working with a common aim in mind. This being the creation of a modern and accepted historical and religious narrative, as well as establish what is now known as a universally accepted and recognized English Language.
