Primitive Love
CCS Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

[Chorus]
Primitive love, Primitive love
Primitive man make primitive love
Primitive love, Primitive love
Great heavens above, it's primitive love

[Chorus]
Drags his woman back of the hill
Rough, and tough, but I don't care
You be Tarzan, and I'll be Jane
Run off and leave you
But I'll come back again
(Heavy Sigh!)

[Chorus]
You be Adam, and I'll be Eve
Primitive love is all I need
Jungle fever in my head
Gimme strange kinda lovin'
That's what I said

[Chorus]

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to CCS's song "Primitive Love" show a fascination with the raw, unrefined aspects of love and intimacy. The chorus emphasizes the primal nature of this love, with the repetition of the phrase "primitive love" and the reference to "primitive man." The verses then describe various scenarios in which this primitive love might manifest, such as a man dragging his woman back of the hill or a woman seeking out jungle fever. The lyrics suggest a desire for a kind of love that is unencumbered by societal norms or expectations, unafraid to be rough or unconventional, and perhaps even a little dangerous.

At the same time, there is a sense of playfulness and whimsy throughout the song, particularly in the line "You be Tarzan, and I'll be Jane." The singer is willing to embrace different roles and personas, to experiment and explore, in pursuit of this primitive love. The heavy sigh that follows the mention of Tarzan and Jane might suggest some longing or frustration, but the overall tone of the song remains lighthearted and fun.

Overall, "Primitive Love" seems to be celebrating the idea of a love that is passionate, adventurous, and unapologetically primal.

The brass arrangements took this song to a whole new level. You should go check out CCS' other material if you haven't yet. They were the first band to release an album on RAK Records in 1970 called "CCS". In 1972 they recorded "CCS 2", and then in 1973 "The Best Band In The Land" which this song is taken from. Their cover of Led Zep's "Whole Lotta Love" is excellent, it used to be the opening credits to Top Of The Pops in the UK in the 70's.

Planning to do a virtual jam of this song on FB and YT to commemorate Mike's 73rd birthday next Monday night with some musician friends.

No. This song was written by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman, and was given to both Suzi Quatro and CCS as an album track. Suzi's version is really great too. :)

he, i know this from my youth. but another version. is ccs the orignal band of this song?

Dario Western

It was originally written by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman and recorded by Suzi Quatro as a more faster tribal rocker on her debut album.
