This melody
CLERC Julien Lyrics

This melody
Is a melody for you

This melody
Is a melody for you

That's why
This melody is a melody for you

Overall Meaning

The song 'This Melody' by Clerc Julien speaks about the distance and separation between two people and how they are connected through a melody. The singer is talking about a melody that reminds them of someone who is far away from them. The lyrics are in French and talk about how the melody is like an ocean between them, made of saltwater and melancholy. The person is reminded of this melody from time to time, and it connects them to their loved one.

The second part of the song is about the people living in the singer's country. It talks about how the wind makes the birds fly away, and the fields are meant for grazing animals. Everyone who lives there follows a simple life, and they are content with what they have. They are not more significant or more beautiful than anyone else, but they are the people of that place, just like the melody that connects the singer to their loved one.

The last part of the song talks about how the person who is far away from the singer has left, but their dream remains. The sun was too strong for them in their country and skin, so they had to leave. The melody, which was once a reminder of them, has now transformed into rain in the person's city. The song ends with the singer reiterating that this melody is for their loved one.

My wife and I spent a year in Holland on a business assignment from July of 1975 to July of 1976. One evening in the Spring of 1976, while driving from our home in Hilversum to a company sponsored evening of dinner and dancing being held in Utrecht, I heard this song on the car radio for the first time and couldn’t believe how beautiful it was. Because it was mostly sung in French, I wasn’t sure if I would ever hear it again. After the dinner there was dancing to a live band and I couldn’t believe my ears when they played & sang “This Melody”! Thank you Julien for a beautiful melody and a wonderful memory.
