Would their electrocytes work with similar mechanisms to muscle tissue, as well as having mechanisms for producing electric discharges, and substitute normal muscle tissue entirely for movement?

Edit: Hold on, my bad. It's been a while since I watched the video, so I went back to the section where they talked about their electrocytes. They describe them as "Modified Muscle Cells," so electrocytes are probably muscle tissue with extra functions. I could also be wrong, but that is what I'm picking up. Sorry if my comment seemed pretentious here.

There are several ways in which you could prevent being shocked, as an eel. Same as for any other living thing, or device that uses electricity. A mix of zones that conduct and zones that isolate. That is probably in the skin and mucus on the skin, but obviously the cells that generate the electricity will be directional, ie have their charge on the outside, otherwise a current would just run through the animal and they would all commit suicide.
Our nerves also have shielding.

Since it developed from a sensory organ that uses electricity, the shielding already started there. I was wondering how evolution could create a shocking organ like this, bc if just some cells have it, it would serve no purpose. But since it originated from a sensory system, that explains the origin. Once a creature has that, a mutation to all those cells could step by step increase the voltage (and counters) to what it is today. It would be beneficial in every step.

The animals' charge only radiates outward from its body, never inwards. This is an example of the "Faraday Cage" effect, where electrical charges will not go inside an enclosed space. A similar thing happens if you are in a car or an aircraft which gets struck by lightning - the lighting bolt will conduct itself around the outside of the vehicle, but it won't go inside. Back in 1674 John Ray in England noted that while alive the eels can be deadly but on death their bodies have no electric charge and were being skinned and eaten in Italy.
It doesn't mention if he flexed or compressed the fish to see if that generated a charge.

The eel is quite amazing and I would like to know more about it's electricity discharge. Are there any amps involved? We use electric fencing which discharge 4000 volts ⚡️ as a deterrent for trespassers but it doesn't kill a person at all because of very low amps. The eel must then either have a bit more amps or much more volts, not properly measured. The subject is quite interesting.

Actually the pulse measures in at about 250 to 300mA peak with voltage generally in the 400 to 600vdc range. Pulses are about 12mS or so. Similar to being zapped by an old school camera flash capacitor 😮

I'm glad you pointed out that it's actually a fish. I remember back in Zimbabwe at Lake Kariba, we caught several Cat fish that were also equipped to shock. They were all almost Albino like. They were a pinkish white and not very big. 12-24" Is mostly what we caught.
We couldn't get the hooks out until they had used up all their power by us using sticks and our rods to make it discharge.
When you catch one, you hope it's just a fluke, catch the next one and fishing is over. Too much effort for getting shocked.

Back in the early 80's I raised, bred and sold topical fish and I found one in a pet store supply warehouse, where a store went to buy fish for their tanks to sell. I bought him and called him Tesla. I kept him in a 20-gallon tank at home. I dropped a couple of silver dollars in with him. Whenever someone saw them, they asked if they would get shocked if they reached in for them. I told them the truth, but it was amazing the number of people who would try for them anyway. But they were the same guys that would pee on an electric fence when they were drinking too. I used to train my graduates by a 1000v insulation resistance tester. They come out of university all sure of themselves with their degree, formulas and copied notation, but still never understood electricity at its heart. They did when I had finished training them 😂. Always did the experiments on myself first and all participants volunteered knowing fully what was going to happen. Although maybe alarming to some, when you are in the know it’s all calculated and proved. They left my training true engineers and could understand any electrical problem posed with time to reflect on it of course. Had to run it through the HR department and HSE department first literally. Fun times but a brilliant learning tool used correctly.

That's the only part of this video that I don't like :( I'm a dog mom and video where dogs are either hurt or killed I cannot stand. And what's to make it worse if that the so called owners put the dogs in dangerous situations.
So when the owner of the German shepherd laughed at poor dog I wanted to punch my screen.
