Dogs
Caesar Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You have opened my eyes
I don't want to see the dogs and their hungry smiles
It's very sad, I want to get out
I don't have to build a future out of dry food and bones
Or very soon
You can make me sit and roll over play dead
Would be so damn nice
I don't want to be your dog for the rest of my life

I'm all set to get out
I'm all set to get out of this voluntary cage
My future was made
I had a lot going my way, no way,
Always a serpentine smile, for the foolish grind
But then the sun sets suddenly nothing will remain the same
I'll keep this up until I feel the darkness is around me

They are still around me, I can feel 'em coming
They are all around me, and I'm going under
My, my, my

So beware, there is always something else we find to fear
It is not OK, it's a shame. I could blame it on the way we were raised
And if this is wrong

You can make me sit and roll over play dead

Would be so damn nice, I'll look back on my dog days as the best of my life
I'll keep it up until I feel the darkness is around me

Overall Meaning

Caesar's song "Dogs" is about breaking free from a life that is being controlled by someone else. The opening lyrics "You have opened my eyes / I don't want to see the dogs and their hungry smiles" suggests that Caesar has started to see through a facade that he has been living and is no longer content with it. Caesar does not want to live a life based on survival in a metaphorical sense, because to him it is no better than being a dog - living only for food and basic necessities.

To Caesar, the future he had planned for himself has been taken away, and he is trapped in a metaphorical cage. With the lyrics "I'm all set to get out...they are still around me, I can feel 'em coming", Caesar is trying to escape this cage and the people who have led him there. He knows that there will be obstacles, but he is determined to get out and confront them.

Towards the end of the song, Caesar acknowledges that fear will always be present in some form in his life, but this does not stop him from pushing forward. The lyrics “You can make me sit and roll over play dead / Would be so damn nice, I’ll look back on my dog days as the best of my life / I’ll keep it up until I feel the darkness is around me” illustrate Caesar’s determination to keep pushing forward and living life on his own terms.

When i was in the Air Force, about 22 years old, i got myself dobbie and started reading books and training.

I got pretty good at obedience training and I guess someone saw how much I liked my dog and how well trained it was.

I can't remember how it happened, but one of the dogs from the doberman gang was retiring from acting and i was offered the dog.

I loved that movie too and couldn't believe i got the opportunity to have one.

Dobbies are just so smart that it's almost like cheating because they learn so fast. 😊✌️

He reads dogs perfectly! He morphs while watching each dog, like he’s part dog too. Incredible.

No one wants a spoiled dog or kid by coddling them to the point where they don’t respect you as a pack leader. Kids copy and amplify what they witness from the parent’s behavior of Mom not listening to Dad because of false masculinity, feminism, and Fathers not listening to Mom because of genetic predisposition masculinity, which makes it appear that no one is in charge and everyone is fighting for their own selfish way as the kids learn to fight the parents from the parents. Since equal partnership debates or fights are only ended by a compromise, kids see debate compromise as love and respect, because that is all they know from the ones they love. So, when a parent wants obedience from their kid, the kid sees it as disrespect without love. Why? (Because the kid didn’t get a debate followed by a compromise) Parents don’t recognize this as the problem and think it’s the way it is and give up. Gov’t, Church, Army, Coaches, and Successful Businesses use 1 leader and not 2 equal leaders. Your family is a team. Who is the leader? Kids learn arguing from the parents until they turn parenting into a time consuming debate/compromise and not discipline, just as a bad behaved dog does, which leads kids to see bad behavior as a compromise and not a definite no.

❤U, Cesar!!

I’ve owned both breeds. They need at least 1-2 hours exercise per day. On a good note, the Doberman takes to training quickly and the Rottweiler listens very well.
