Cage the Elephant Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Looking up from your eyes
Everything that you ever wanted
You fight but why
Folded up just like a piece of paper
Take you sweet little time
You can write on the sidewalk, yeah, but you fine to write
And now you're walking through the door
Just like 2024
Said I gotta believe
Someday you'll see
Someday you'll see that there's something more
That there's something more
That's why you're so poor
Oh, there's something more
And now I'm standing at your front door
Nowhere better to be
But I can see you tie your own shoe laces
You bleed
Fall in love just like a newborn baby
Blonde hair and blue eyes
Taking pictures with your Polaroid camera
Your fine it's right
And now you're walking through the door
Just like 2024
Said I gotta believe
Someday you'll see
Someday you'll see that there's something more
That there's something more
That's why you're so poor
Oh, there's something more
And now you're walking through the door
Just like 2024
Said I gotta believe
Someday you'll see
Someday you'll see that there's something more
That there's something more
That's why you're so poor
Oh, there's something more
The lyrics of Cage the Elephant's 2024 delve into the idea of wanting something more out of life, despite one's current circumstances. The opening lines, "Fall into that black hole honey, Looking up from your eyes" describe the feeling of being lost and trapped in one's own mind. The singer of the song is fighting for something but unsure of what exactly that something is, hence the lines "Everything that you ever wanted, You fight but why." Throughout the song, the lyrics suggest that finding meaning and purpose in life is a continuous journey, not an end goal.
The second verse describes the duality of life, represented by the metaphor of a newborn baby - pure and innocent, yet bleeding from its own shoe laces. The line "Taking pictures with your Polaroid camera, Your fine it's right" implies that the singer is content with capturing the fleeting moments in life, but they still hold onto the hope that there must be something more substantial eventually. The repeated chorus of "Someday you'll see, That there's something more" reinforces this notion of hope.
Overall, the lyrics of 2024 touch on the common human struggle of searching for purpose and fulfillment in life. The song encourages listeners to keep searching and believe that there is more to life than what we currently see.

when i first heard this song 6 years ago i made a promise to listen to this song to ring in 2024. i had to count back the years on my fingers, and was amazed to think about just everything thats happened in that time. time really does just fly by. id listen to this album on loop for weeks at a time. well, i havent really listened to CTE for years at this point, but i did it. Really was the band that got me out of "classic rock station in the car" and got me excited about liking a band that made music that resonated with me. great memories, and a feeling of melancholy from looking back
