Around My Head
Cage the Elephant Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I don't know why I got these feelings, yeah,
I just can't seem to get away from
Can you dig it?

You may never see it
No, you won't find it falling off my tongue
I take it downtown, finally lose it
Oh-oh-oh-oh, ah-ah-ah-ah
Oh-oh-oh-oh, ah-ah-ah-ah

I don't think it's very nice
To walk around my head all night
You got me tangled like a braid, tied-twisted
I don't think it's fair, no
Do you-oh?
You-oh?

Are you on the flipside?
You know I took the long way 'round
'Cause all I really am is a homemade elevator
Blinded by your sunshine, put you on a plane to Paris
Lay my cards down on the table

Oh-oh-oh-oh, ah-ah-ah-ah
Oh-oh-oh-oh, ah-ah-ah-ah

I don't think it's very nice
To walk around my head all night
You got me tangled like a braid, tied-twisted
I don't think it's fair

Can't find a reason for these feelings, got enough of them
This guy he told me, said he's gonna send me something lovely
But even still at times I wonder what you're thinking of me
You're probably sure I lost my mind
Oh mind, oh mind, oh mind, oh mind

I don't think it's very nice
To walk around my head all night
You got me tangled like a braid, tied-twisted
I don't think it's fair

I don't think it's very polite
To walk around my head all night
You got me tangled like a braid, tied-twisted
I don't think it's fair
(Aah, ooh)

Aah, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Aah, ooh
Oh-oh-oh-oh, ah-ah-ah-ah
Oh-oh-oh-oh, ah-ah-ah-ah

Oh-oh-oh-oh, ah-ah-ah-ah
Oh-oh-oh-oh, ah-ah-ah-ah, oh

Overall Meaning

The song "Around My Head" by Cage the Elephant is about a person who is feeling trapped in their own thoughts and emotions, unable to shake them off. The singer expresses frustration and confusion towards the person who is the subject of their thoughts, who seems to be always present in their mind. The lyrics suggest a sense of helplessness as the singer cannot find a reason for these feelings and is unsure of what the person is thinking of them.

The metaphor of being tangled like a braid and tied-twisted is used to describe the intense emotional entanglement between the singer and this person, as the person's influence seems to be all-encompassing, even affecting their mental state. The line "even still at times I wonder what you're thinking of me" highlights the singer's uncertainty about the other person's feelings and intentions towards them, adding to their anxiety and confusion.

Overall, the song captures the feeling of being consumed by one's thoughts and emotions, unable to break free from them even when they are unwanted. It highlights the complexity of human relationships and the toll they can take on one's mental health.

I was there when they filmed the park scene with my mom, I was 10. I remember that day so vividly, crazy how I had no idea who they were and now I’m 19 and a fan.

I heard this song after my boyfriend died in a car accident. And it still makes me cry everytime I listen . He was gone so suddenly and seeing him in his casket is an image I still vividly remember. And always will. So this hits me everytime I hear. It felt like he was always in my mind and thoughts/dreams for years. Still is sometimes. I don't think it's fair. Did make me want to just scream like that.

Cage the elephant is one of the best alternative rock bands around. And I find there music to be absolute genius. Not to mention how exciting Matt Schultz is at a live concert
