The Commission

It's okay if it's hard to believe
I have faith that you will do greater things
It's my time to go, but before I leave
Go tell the world about me
I was dead but now I live
I've gotta go now for a little while
But goodbye is not the end
Don't forget the things that I taught you
I've conquered death and I hold the keys
Where I go you will go too someday
But there's much to do here before you leave so
Go tell the world about me
I was dead but now I live
I've gotta go now for a little while
But goodbye is not the
End of the journey
The end of the road
My spirit is with you
Wherever you go
You have a purpose
And I have a plan
I'll make you this promise
I'll come back again
But until then
Go tell the world about me
For I was dead but now I live
Oh, I've gotta go now for a little while
Hey, but goodbye is not the end
(Go tell the world) Oh
Go tell them about me
(Go tell the world)
I've gotta go
(Go tell the world)
For a little while
But goodbye is not the end
The lyrics of Cain's song The Commission are a message of hope and empowerment from a departed soul to those he leaves behind. The first line, "See my hands and look at my feet," refers to the wounds of the crucifixion, which the singer is showing to the listener. He acknowledges that it may be difficult to believe, but he has faith that they will carry on his legacy and "do greater things."
The second verse reminds the listener of the teachings that the singer has imparted to them, and that he has conquered death and holds the keys to eternal life. He assures them that though he is leaving, they too will someday follow him to where he has gone, but until then there is important work to be done on earth.
The chorus urges the listener to spread the singer's message to the world, sharing the good news that though he was once dead, he is now alive. The final verse repeats the message of hope and promise, assuring the listener that they have a purpose and a plan, and that the singer will return to them in the future.
Overall, The Commission is a powerful affirmation of faith, resilience, and the potential for each individual to make a positive impact on the world around them, even in the face of adversity and loss.

What gets me the most is that, it's not a song about Jesus, it's about Jesus speaking to us in his own words.
@zeneidavalencia6248
Exactly! I think that’s why it made me cry 🥲
@christinaharris2799
Sometimes when I sing this song, I change "I", " Me", etc. to "He", " Him".
🎶Go tell the world about Him. He was dead but now He lives.
Either way about it, it's still an absolutely beautiful song with so much truth. I look forward to the day that I am in His presence and at His feet.

This song should speak to all of us. Especially those of us in the American church. We are too comfortable most of the time just sitting around and expecting our pastors to tell those who come to church about Jesus. We need to be the ones who are doing it. Our world is in a state of confusion while we sit trying to be as comfortable as we can. Let's get comfortable in the uncomfortable. Tell the world about him!
