Lies
Camel Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Tell me no lies,
has peace arrived
Or, is this some kind of joke?

What a surprise,
you don't realize
There's some things you don't own.
Can you disguise,
can you simplify
This change you put me through?

Can you revive,
and will I survive
This life you've brought me to?

Physically and emotionally exhausted,

Nude was confined to a sea-side resort nursing home.
His war had finally begun.

Overall Meaning

The song Lies by Camel is a reflection upon the concept of truthfulness and how we often struggle with accepting the reality of situations. The opening lines, "Tell me no lies, has peace arrived, Or, is this some kind of joke?" sets the tone for the song, where the singer is questioning the truth of the situation presented to him. The use of the phrase "tell me no lies" highlights the singer's distrust of what he is being told, and the use of rhetorical questions creates a sense of uncertainty and confusion.

In the second verse, the singer challenges the other person's ownership of everything in the situation. He says, "There's some things you don't own." This could be directed towards a person who is manipulating him and trying to control the situation. The following lines, "Can you disguise, can you simplify, This change you put me through?" reveals that the singer is struggling to accept the change that is happening, and he wants the other person to explain it to him in a way that he can understand.

The final verse, "Can you revive, and will I survive, This life you've brought me to?" suggests that the singer is feeling helpless and vulnerable. He is in a situation that he cannot control, and he is questioning whether he will even survive it. The final lyrics, "Physically and emotionally exhausted, Nude was confined to a sea-side resort nursing home. His war had finally begun" provides context to the song. The song is inspired by the life of a painter Egon Schiele, and the final lyrics are a reference to his life and death.

Best prog. Romania respect Andy, and all members.

@bramposthumus9300

Andy has more memorable guitar solos than any prog band I can think of - and I love them all (the solos and the bands)!

A fantastic song from my favorite Camel album, when i was 17 years old i tried to play the guitar, i played on acoustic guitar for one year without taking any proffesional lessons, so i could play only the basic tracks, not the guitar solos, i trained on songs of Camel and Peter Frampton, after one year i could play only 20 seconds or 30 seconds from a specific song, at the age of 18 i joined the army so when i came home to vacations i found out that my younger brother took control over my guitar, i left the guitar for my brother, anyway, i always loved Camel music and Andy Latimer guitar playing, he's playing in an elegant and majestic style, Andy Latimer and Peter frampton are two of my favorite guitar players of all times, thanks for sharing.

Camel, Since I first heard his music many years ago, I have been a huge fan of them. And I never have regretted. The mystic voice of Andy Latimer, coupled with his unique approach to guitar playing, imparts a melancholic quality to each note, allowing me to immerse by complete in its music.
