Born in Makati City, Philippines, Camile Velasco's family later moved to Haiku, Maui—located in the islands of Hawaii. Prior to American Idol, Velasco was a struggling songwriter/composer who worked at her parents' IHOP Restaurant in Kahului. She has since released a single with Universal/Motown, headlined events in California, Hawaii, and elsewhere, and is currently working in the studio to complete an album.

People in these are critiquing her as if this was recorded yesterday when it was literally years ago. Now she is singing her own music and touring with big named artists. I just watched her live a few days ago and she was an awesome performer. Her fan base grows each year and I respect her grind.

On Valentine's day here in Hawaii, she opened for Lauryn Hill and she sound really, really great. Actually she stole the show from Lauryn Hill. LAURYN HILL is great but Eli Mac stole the show.
