In 2005, Camille released Le fil. This is a concept album, built on one note (a B) that starts at the beginning of the album and stops at its end. All the songs of the album are constructed on the voice of Camille with only one instrument (double-bass, and sometimes a keyboard).
Camille's third studio album Music Hole, released in March 2008, shows a key turn in her career: it is mostly sung in English.

Alors que je m'appelle Thérèse?
Pourquoi tu m'appelles Ardèche
Alors que je m'appelle Corrèze?
Pourquoi tu m'appelles triangle
Alors que je m'appelle trapèze?
Pourquoi tu m'appelles Louis XV
Alors que je m'appelle Louis XVI?
Pourquoi tu m'appelles œuf coq
Alors que je m'appelle omelette?
Pourquoi tu m'appelles hautbois
Alors que je m'appelle trompette?
Pourquoi tu m'appelles Don Jouan
Alors qu' j'ai une petite quéquette?
Pourquoi tu m'appelles képi alors
Que je m'appelle casquette?
The lyrics to Camille's song Janine 1 feature a simple structure on the surface, with a repetitive question of " pourquoi tu m'appelles" (why do you call me) followed by various names and words that are not related to the singer's actual name. One interpretation of these lyrics could be that the singer is feeling frustrated and invalidated by the way they are being addressed. By consistently calling them by inaccurate or silly names, the singer's identity is being ignored or dismissed.
The use of various names and words that are not the singer's actual name could also represent society's tendency to label and categorize people in a way that doesn't always fit. The references to historical figures and musical instruments suggest that the singer is being compared to figures or objects that they don't necessarily identify with. This creates a sense of disconnect and misunderstanding between the singer and the person calling them these names.
Overall, Camille's Janine 1 is a commentary on identity and the way in which we use language to define and label people. By questioning why the singer is being called these names, the song highlights the importance of acknowledging and respecting individuals for who they are, rather than trying to fit them into predefined categories.
