Camille Lyrics

Alors que je m'appelle un chat?
Pourquoi tu m'appelles maman
Alors que je m'appelle papa?
Pourquoi tu m'appelles Karine avec un C
Alors que je m'appelle Carine avec un K?
Pourquoi tu m'appelles beauté
Comme si ça se voyait pas?
The lyrics to Camille's song "Janine II" are an exploration of identity and how we are perceived by others. The four questions posed in the lyrics ask why the singer is called certain names or labels, when they feel that those labels do not accurately represent who they truly are. The repetition of "Pourquoi tu m'appelles" (Why do you call me) emphasizes the confusion and frustration that the singer feels when others try to put them in a box or label them in a certain way.
The first two questions play with gender roles and stereotypes, as the singer questions why they are being called names traditionally associated with the opposite gender. The third question addresses misspelling of their name, which is a common experience for many with non-traditional spellings. The final question challenges the idea of external beauty being the defining factor in someone's identity, suggesting that there is more to a person than their physical appearance.
Overall, these lyrics are a powerful commentary on the importance of allowing individuals to define themselves and rejecting societal expectations and stereotypes.
