Ta douleur
Camille Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Lève toi c'est décidé
Laisse-moi te remplacer
Je vais prendre ta douleur

Doucement sans faire de bruit
Comme on réveille la pluie
Je vais prendre ta douleur

Elle lutte elle se débat
Mais ne résistera pas
Je vais bloquer l'ascenseur
Saboter l'interrupteur

Si tu as mal là où t'as peur
Tu n'as pas mal là où je pense!

Qu'est-ce qu´elle veut cette connasse
Le beurre ou l'argent du beurre
Que tu vives ou que tu meurs?

Faut qu'elle crève de bonheur
Ou qu'elle change de godasses
Faut qu'elle croule sous les fleurs
Change de couleur
Je vais jouer au docteur

Dites moi que fout la science
A quand ce pont entre nos panses?
Si tu as mal là où t'as peur
Tu n'as pas mal là où je chante!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Ta douleur" by Camille are a metaphorical representation of a person offering to take their loved one's pain and suffering for them. The song starts with Camille pleading with her lover to let her take their pain away. She promises to be gentle and take the pain without making any noise. She then goes on to describe how she would try to block the pain from her lover, even going so far as to fight off anyone who tries to take her place. However, she also recognizes that she cannot literally take someone else's pain away, and she questions why science has not yet found a way to bridge the gap between physical and psychological pain.

The middle part of the song depicts Camille's frustration with the people who cause her lover's pain. She refers to them as "this intrusive person," "this storm before the summer," and "this heiress who bathes in the tepid water of your loins." She wants to punish them for hurting her lover, but she knows that it's impossible. She wishes that they would suffer the same fate as her lover or that they would simply disappear.

The song ends with Camille singing that she doesn't understand why science hasn't found a way to transfer pain. She says that if you feel pain where you're afraid, you won't feel pain where Camille sings. This final line suggests that the solution to emotional pain might lie in embracing it and turning it into something creative, like music.

Pour moi ta douleur c'est l'empathie à l'extrême ,quelle belle âme cette Camille !

This album ("Le Fil", from 2005) is such a masterpiece. Nothing but vocals and a few sparse instruments. And a long note that can be heard throughout the whole album, "tying" the songs together ("Le Fil" means "The String"). If you haven't listened to it, give it a try.
