Frosty the Snowman
Canadian Brass Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Was a jolly happy soul
With a corncob pipe and a button nose
And two eyes made out of coal
Frosty, the Snowman
Is a fairytale they say
He was made of snow but the children know
There must have been some magic
In that old silk hat they found
For when they placed it on his head
He began to dance around
Frosty, the Snowman
Knew the sun was hot that day
So he said, "Let's run and we'll have some fun
Now before I melt away"
Catch me if you can
Frosty, the Snowman
Had to hurry on his way
But he waved goodbye saying, "Don't you cry
I'll be back again some day"
Thumpety thump thump, thumpety thump thump
Look at Frosty go
Thumpety thump thump, thumpety thump thump
Over the hills of snow
The song "Frosty the Snowman" tells the tale of a snowman that comes to life due to a little bit of magic in an old silk hat. The opening line presents Frosty as a cheerful figure. He is depicted as having a corncob pipe and a button nose, and two eyes made out of coal. According to the lyrics, children know that he was created from snow but his animation was due to some kind of magic that came from an old silk hat they found. The magic leads to his lively and charming personality and his ability to move and dance.
The lyrics then explain how Frosty realized that he was going to melt as the sun was hot that day, and so he invited the children to run and have fun with him before he would disappear. Snowmen do not usually come to life, and so it is unsurprising that Frosty would need to run and have fun before he melted away. In the end, Frosty had to rush on his way but waved goodbye and reassured the children that he would come back again someday. The song ends with a rhythmic call to catch Frosty, as he goes over the hills of snow.

Too bad we can't zoom in. I always enjoyed watching them play as much as listening to them. I had a cassette tape of their 'Basin Street' album that I played the rollers out of, too.
