La haine nous endurcit, cries avec moi
Hey !

In Canardo's song "Le Chant Du Ghetto," the lyrics depict the struggles and harsh realities of growing up in the ghetto. The song opens with the artist asking where the cries come from, signifying the pain and hardship experienced by those living in impoverished neighborhoods. The hatred and contempt prevalent in these areas toughen the people, and Canardo invites listeners to join in and cry out with him. The song's chorus emphasizes the chant of the ghetto, the harshness of the concrete environment, and the need to express their emotions collectively.
Canardo then describes his upbringing, where his brothers have lost their clarity of mind, possibly due to the difficult circumstances they face. He mentions being caught between two worlds, with angels opening the gates of hell for them. The overcrowded blocks they live in are compared to Smarties (colorful candy-coated chocolates), offering a temporary escape from the hardships through laughter and intoxication. The artist highlights how the state manipulates them by being hypnotized by television, making them oblivious to the winter outside while experiencing a personal heat wave. Canardo reveals that to escape their circumstances, he turns to rap or engaging in dubious activities, asserting his determination not to conform to societal expectations. He considers himself an outsider, originating from another planet, and refuses to fit into their mold. Despite the challenges, the sense of welcoming, both with and without hospitality, remains prevalent in the community.
Canardo continues to describe the harsh reality of the ghetto, using the metaphor of guns replacing the whips of the past. He admits feeling exhausted, with his cheeks displaying signs of erosion, possibly from enduring and swallowing hardships. He often walks alone to reflect, finding solace in only bowing his knees before God. The artist questions where the exit is, leading to loss of trust and recounts witnessing his peers giving up while joining the ranks of the oppressors. Although immersed in difficult circumstances, his mind remains elsewhere, detached. Canardo shares his history of selling drugs by the entrance to make money, now acknowledging that nothing has changed except he now sells his music on digital platforms. He no longer craves recognition or praises, rapping out of necessity rather than pure enjoyment.
Overall, "Le Chant Du Ghetto" is a powerful expression of the struggles, pain, and survival experienced in the ghetto. Canardo's lyrics paint a vivid picture of a community facing adversity, holding onto their unity and resilience, while striving to break free from their circumstances.
