Candlebox was known for an explosive live show and throughout their 8 year career, they toured with such bands as Living Colour, The Flaming Lips, Our Lady Peace, Rush, Henry Rollins, and Metallica. They were also a featured band on the main-stage at Woodstock '94 and made repeat live performances on the David Letterman show.
They are best known for the singles "Change", "You", "Far Behind" and "Simple Lessons". "Far Behind" entered Billboard's Top 20 in July of 1993 and didn't drop off the charts until January of 1994. The videos for "Far Behind" and "You" were in seemingly perpetual rotation on MTV and became two of the most requested videos of 1993.
Drummer Scott Mercado left the band in 1997 and was replaced by former Pearl Jam member Dave Krusen. Krusen later left the band in 1999 and was replaced by Shannon Larkin of Ugly Kid Joe. Bardi Martin also left the band that year, and was replaced by Rob Reddick (formerly of Dig). The band split in year 2000.
As of 2005, singer Kevin Martin is currently recording and performing as the leader of The Hiwatts. Peter Klett is currently recording and performing as the leader of redlightmusic.
In 2006, Candlebox has reunited with their original line-up. They went on a three-month North American tour beginning on July 1st of the same year. This marks their first collaboration since 1996.
In 2008, Candlebox released their fourth studio album called "Into the sun". This meant their return since 1998's Happy Pills. Also, they released a Live album called "Alive in Seattle" which includes tracks from all their past albums.
In 2009, Kevin Martin (along with Sean Hennesy, Candlebox's guitarist) helped form the super-group The Gracious Few with three of the members of the band LIVE. Functioning as lead singer, the band went on to release a self-titled album which accompanied an extensive tour. Though LIVE has reformed with a new lead singer, more material from The Gracious Few is said to be released in the future

You see it in this face, and hear it in these words
And I begin to know, and I begin to feel, everything I've wanted
And I become a man through you
You find out my needs, this separation,
Push away everything and anyone connected,
To you needs and to your life and to your ties
I said it's all right there for you to now
Hey I said it's all right there for you to tell...
I'll let you down my friend, I'll turn my back to you
I never meant to leave you, never meant to leave your room
You began alone, and you've begun again, all I wanted for you
I become alive through you,
Can you feel this constant resurrection of needs,
I'm sorry for those things I meant to help you, and I meant to fill you,
And I'll always let you down,
And I'll always put you out,
I'll push it all away,
I said it's all right here for you now
Hey I said it's all right there for you to tell...
Thought to feel it in your life
Thought to take your time to grow
I was sent to be here, left to hurt you, this time it's sad, you've gone
Hey I said it's all right there for you now
Hey I said it's all right there for you too
Hey I said it's all right there for you now
Thought to feel it in your life
Thought to take your time to grow...
The lyrics to Candlebox's song "Become" explore the complex nature of relationships and the human struggle for personal growth. The singer confesses that they will let their friend down and push them away, all while acknowledging the connection they share. The line "I'll push it all away" highlights the natural tendency to distance oneself from others, despite the desire for companionship. The singer also expresses regret for not being able to help and fill their friend, but also acknowledges that they were sent to be there and ultimately left to hurt them.
The chorus of the song emphasizes the theme of personal growth and the opportunity for the listener to take their time to grow. The line "I become a man through you" suggests that the singer's growth and self-discovery are intertwined with their friend's experiences. The repeated phrase "thought to feel it in your life" emphasizes the importance of personal experience and introspection as a means of growth.
Overall, "Become" is a song about the difficulties of relationships and the challenges of self-discovery. It acknowledges the pain of letting others down, but ultimately emphasizes the importance of personal growth and introspection.
