Far Behind
Candlebox Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Now maybe I didn't mean to treat you bad
But I did it anyway
And then maybe some would say your life was sad
But you lived it anyway
And so maybe
Your friends they stand around, they watch you crumble
As you fall to the ground
And then someday
Your friends they stand beside as you were flying
Oh, you were flying oh so high
But then some day people look at you
The world they call their own
They watch you suffer
Yeah, they hear you calling home
And then some day we could take our time
To brush the leaves aside so you can reach us
Hey, but you left me far behind

Now maybe didn't mean to treat you oh so bad
But I did it anyway
Now I'm saying but maybe
Some would say you're left with what you had
But you couldn't share the pain, no, no, no

Couldn't share the pain, and watch you suffer, mm
Now maybe could have made my own mistakes
But I live with what I've known
And then maybe we might share in something great
Won't you look at where we've grown
Won't you look at where we've gone
And then someday comes tomorrow
Holds a sense of what I fear for you in my mind
As you trip the final line
And that cold day when you lost control
Shame you left my life so soon
You should've told me
Hey, but you left me far behind

Now maybe I didn't meant to treat you oh so bad
Oh, but I did it anyway
Now maybe some would say you're left with what you had
Oh, but you couldn't share the pain, no, no, no

Oh no
Oh, no, no, no, no
Oh, don't say it
Oh my Lord
See I know
See I know

But maybe, said maybe
Didn't mean to treat you oh so bad
Oh, but I did it anyway now, saying now maybe, baby
Some would say you're left with what you had
But you couldn't share the pain
Now I said, but times have changed
Your friends they come and watch you crumble to the ground
They watch you suffer
Yeah, they hold you down, hold on down
Said maybe, oh, maybe didn't mean to treat you bad
But you left me far behind
Left me far behind
Left me far behind

My daughter is a heroin addict for 10 years now. Her mother & I always talk about how her life is so sad. We've literally watched her crumble to the ground. Addicted, homeless & very little hope of ever getting clean. We constantly worry about about that one day when we get that final phone call that she's gone.

To My Vanessa:

We're here for you if you're ever really ready to get clean. Please don't leave us Far Behind.

Love you!

Mommy & Daddy

Unless you spent your youth in the 80's and 90's. No one knows how awesome it was. It had an amazing feeling to it. Almost like magic in the air. You felt the excitement. I'm so glad I got to experience it.

Generation X created a lot of sad songs. We were the throwaway children from broken marriages and selfish parents (not all obviously). We were handed a country in decline and told we were slackers. My mother married 5 times and I was dropped off to live with grandparents. I stayed married and raised children who are doing well. I'm battling stage IV cancer for 5 years and still going. Life never gets any easier, but we were trained well.
