The group was formed in the 1990s in Boston, Massachusetts by Viola and drummer Todd Foulsham, with other performers. Viola and Foulsham moved to New York City and the pair began appearing as a stripped-down acoustic duo. Viola has since kept the band name alive with various lineups and recording projects. Foulsham left the group in the mid-90s when the band's future was uncertain, but returned to perform on 2004's Hang On Mike. The pair have also begun playing as an acoustic duo again in the mid-2000s.
Hunker Down

Whatever happens to all our dreams, to all our plans
Hunker down
You will be on the mike again
There will be tons of laughter
But you won't hear a thing
You will be on the list again
There will be tons of people
But you won't see a thing
Oh, no
Who's breaking up the band?
Who's breaking up the band?
You better hunker down
You better hunker down
Hunker down
You better save your energy
There will be tons of magic
But you won't feel a thing
Oh, no
Who's breaking up the band?
Who's breaking up the band?
You better hunker down
You better hunker down
Hunker down
And if you pass this way again
There will be hearts filled with music
And girls backstage with drugs backstage
But you won't feel a thing
The song "Hunker Down" by Candy Butchers is a reflection on the transience of life, relationships and dreams. The first verse contemplates the trajectory of people who once were part of a band, and the things that happened to their dreams and plans. The chorus urges the listener to "hunker down", to hold on and get ready for what is to come, even if they won't be able to experience it fully.
The second verse talks about the magic and glamour of being on stage, and encourages the listener to conserve their energy, since there will be much to see and experience, but they won't be able to feel it fully. The song seems to be nostalgic for a time when things were simpler, and life didn't move so fast. The final verse speaks about the allure of the music industry, with girls and drugs backstage, but warns that it's a fleeting experience that won't give lasting fulfillment.
Overall, the song seems to be urging the listener to live in the moment, to enjoy what they can while they can, but also to be aware that everything is temporary, and to hold on to what truly matters in life.
