Candy Flip were named after the slang term for the practice of taking ecstasy and LSD at the same time which fitted perfectly with the popular rave scene of the time. The band were formed by Danny Spencer (vocals, keyboards), Ric Peet (keyboards) and Kelvin Andrews (keyboards) in 1990. The band had a top three British hit with an electronic cover of the Beatles' Strawberry Fields Forever in 1990.
In 1991, Candy Flip released their first album, Madstock . . . The Continuing Adventures of Bubble Car Fish, which combined rave beats with synth pop strongly influenced by bands such as the Pet Shop Boys and The Beloved. A further single 'This Can Be Real' fared well on the charts, reaching the UK Top 60.
The band were criticized for jumping on the Madchester bandwagon and were treated by the press as a one-hit wonder. Even so, the album received reasonable reviews when it was released.
Candy Flip split up in 1992 after the English rave and baggy scene faded into history. Peet became a producer and engineer, working with bands such as the Charlatans and Six By Seven. Spencer joined Sound 5.
Most recently, Danny Spencer and Kelvin Andrews (as Soul Mekanik) produced four songs on the recent Robbie Williams album, "Rudebox" (2006.)

Absolutely the most fun I've ever had making a video. I recruited everyone I knew. The producer (he's on the phone next to me), my ex-girlfriends, all my mates (Steve, Chris, Lee, Mole...to name but a few) stood on a conveyor belt and "performed" as they passed the camera. We originally wanted to shoot it in one take - but ended up cutting it. It was summer, we were young, it was great. Not the best video I've ever made - but the most enjoyable. Miles

Were you the video director, Miles? Fancy seeing you here on YouTube! :D Oh wait, you commented like 13 years ago, lol... Thank you for giving us this adorable little slice of happy Madchester heaven! <3

@Dollcefina (the haunted doll) Hi, this is Miles again (with another of my YOUTUBE accounts). Dear God, I can't believe I first commented 13 years ago! Crazy. Glad you enjoyed it. Great days - particularly as I hung out with the band when they were in London. Two wonderful artists. This song should have been huge.
Sin with Sebastian
@FILMFEST DISTRIBUTION in my world it was huge, I listen to it and the whole album over and over again, and I absolutely love the video!!!

Nostalgic Tunes Agree. It was a great tune and a perfect pop song. The guys in the band were so cool and friendly too.

Obviously made on a budget of about 10p, but this does - for better or worse - reflect the baggy rave scene of the summer of 1990 as it was. Great tune that deserved to be a hit, and did get plenty of airplay on "One FM".

I always wondered why it was so tough to get this Album in the USA at the not inflated price.
