Sincerity I disregard
You don't know me, but I'm good
Steel your wristwatch
If I could
If Heaven is the home straight, then I'm staying up late
'Cause I'm not precious
'Cause I'm not precious, I'm not precious
You should, should have seen me coming
I'm sure, I saw you running
You, with your English manners
Your body full of foreign drugs
If Heaven is the home straight, then I'm staying up late
'Cause I'm not precious
Are you hoping that I'm stoned? Well you won't go home alone
'Cause I'm not precious, I'm not precious
I'm gifted, I'm of my time
I give you white collar crime
Mistakes I've made, well I see some
In my time I will be done
Another star caught in the making
Another heart I'm quietly breaking
And when it comes to a worthy cause
I'll shake the tins and take the applause
'Cause I'm not precious
The lyrics to Candyland's song, "Precious," are vivid and full of attitude. The song seems to revolve around someone with a tough exterior who may not be the most sincere or trustworthy, but still believes they are good. The tone is boastful, yet also vaguely vulnerable.
The repeated phrase, "If Heaven is the home straight, then I'm staying up late," seems to suggest that the singer is living for the moment and not too concerned with the consequences of their actions. They seem to be enjoying their vices and lack of preciousness, even if others judge them for it.
The line about "touch me I'm pretty hard" could suggest that the singer is trying to be tough and unapproachable, but there's a hint of longing for connection. The mention of "steel[ing] your wristwatch" adds to the sense that they're not to be trusted.
Overall, the song seems to be a defiant celebration of being flawed and not traditionally "precious." It's a bold anthem for those who don't conform to societal expectations.
