Why?
Cane Hill Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Stay, stay, stay away from your house again
My body breaks in the wake of your hurricane
Baby, Please don't stop playin' with my fucking head
No eyes do lock in this empty bed

We could drown in this
Oh, won't you come down?
Come down?
Why?
Why won't you come down with me?

Queen of hearts, tongues in heads will roll
Too young to stop, you took half my soul
Baby, please don't stop playin' with my fucking head
No eyes do lock in this empty bed

We could drown in this
Oh, won't you come down?
Come down
Why?
Why won't you come down?
With me, we can sink

We could drown in this
Oh, won't you come down?
Down
Why?
Why won't you come?
With me

Oh oh, yeah
Why? Why?
Why won't you come?
We could sink, just a little

Down, Down
Why won't you come?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Cane Hill's song "Why?" speak of a tumultuous relationship between two people, where one person seems to be chasing after the other, but the other keeps pushing them away. The lyrics are filled with imagery of drowning and hurricanes, which suggest the intensity of emotions involved. The first verse speaks of the singer's frustration at being kept away from the other person's house, indicating that they have been shut out. The line "my body breaks in the wake of your hurricane" suggests that the other person's presence has a devastating effect on them. The second verse continues this pattern, with the line "too young to stop, you took half my soul" suggesting that the singer might be younger and less experienced than the other person.

The chorus, which asks "why won't you come down with me?", is plaintive and begs for an answer. It is clear that the singer wants the other person to commit to the relationship, but they seem to be hesitant. The repeated line "we could drown in this" suggests that the relationship is dangerous and could lead to both of them being overwhelmed. However, the singer seems willing to take that risk, as long as the other person is by their side.

Overall, the song "Why?" is a powerful evocation of the intensity and confusion of young love, where emotions are high and the outcome is uncertain.

The Serpent's Key

This band deserves way more attention than what they currently have. Their songs are beautiful. This album I'm hearing a mix of Corey Taylor Soulfly type sound, Sevendust, and old Korn. GORGEOUS!!!!

Elijah ECHICAGOBEARS Boyd

True, but the appropriate term is Nu-Metal

I'm so shook. I didn't realize Elijah's voice could get as soft as it did in the beginning...I love it.

Why is Cane Hill so god damn good?

@Bryan Lenihan I feel like they are more than Nu Metal. They are so much of every Nu Metal Band, I can't even fathom. Slipknot, Korn, Nirvana. They are just Cane Hill.

Ultima Umbreon
