Overall Meaning

Davidson Blues, like many blues songs, is filled with metaphor and innuendo. It's a song that captures the essence of the motorcycle culture and its effect on the American psyche. The opening line, "I don't need no steam-heated Cadillac," suggests that the singer is not interested in the excess or luxury that comes with owning a fancy car. Instead, he wants the raw power and freedom that comes with riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle.

As the song progresses, the singer compares his motorcycle to a woman, saying that he can "feel that shaking in her thighs." He also likens the rumble of the motorcycle engine to the sound of thunder, a metaphor that speaks to the danger and excitement of riding. The lyrics always come back to the pleasure and thrill of riding a Harley Davidson, a feeling that can only be understood by those who have experienced it.

Overall, Harely Davidson Blues is a tribute to freedom, rebellion and living life on your own terms. It speaks to the attraction of taking risks, feeling alive and breaking away from the confines of society. The song is not only a celebration of the Harley Davidson motorcycle but also the spirit of adventure and individuality that it represents.

Saw Canned Heat back in 1972 at the Coliseum in El Paso Tx. They were the backup band for James Gang...what a show Canned Heat did! Sounded better than the James Gang and Joe Walsh...I miss those days!

Remember this from long ago. The strange thing is it does not sound like the urban-boogie-blues of "Going Up The Country" or "On The Road Again," both of which featured lead vocals by Alan "Blind Owl" Wilson, but rather more like country-influenced rock. In fact, it sounds a lot like The Band's "Up On Cripple Creek." Wilson, of course, had died more than 2 years before this was recorded, of a drug overdose.
