Sic 'Em Pigs
Canned Heat Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

every time you do your
do your thing outlaw
sic 'em pigs on you
feelin' good have some fun
go down town but don't you
don't you wonder round
sic 'em pigs on you
watch what you do
watch what you say
if your on the street you better
play the game their way
sic 'em pigs on you
grab your guns
fire bombs to
city hall there gonna
gonna get you to
sic in them freaks on you

gotta get outta here

it's too hot
fire bombs everywhere

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Canned Heat's song "Sic 'Em Pigs" describe the experience of living as an outlaw in a society that is corrupt and oppressive. The song's title refers to the police, who are equated with pigs, and the lyrics suggest that the police are not just an annoyance, but a threat to one's safety and freedom. The chorus, "sic 'em pigs on you," is an admonition to stay on guard and avoid drawing attention to oneself.

The first verse of the song encourages the listener to "do your thing" in spite of the risk of being harassed or arrested by the police. The second verse warns to be careful when out on the town, as the police are always watching and looking for a reason to make an arrest. The final verse describes the chaos and danger of living in a city where fire bombs are exploding and the police are hunting down outlaws.

Overall, the lyrics to "Sic 'Em Pigs" convey a sense of paranoia and fear, as well as a rebellious spirit that refuses to be broken by a corrupt system.

It is nice to hear the Henry Vestine speaking voice, for those of us that didn't know him personally.

I first heard this on "Flashback Sunday" on KGB, San Diego back in '85. Didn't catch who did it. Someone told me they thought it was Humble Pie. THanks to you great folks putting this on You-Tube, I'm finally able to know who actually preformed it and hear it again!

@areubaked

Not EVERY radio station banned Sic 'Em Pigs! I worked at WBUS-FM/Miami back in 1971 and we played the hell out of this cut. The local cops would call us on the request line and give us "the heat" for airing it - but that only motivated us to play it even more! "Special dedication going out to the BSO...the Broward County Sheriff's Office...for beating the crap out of hippies! Thanks, Piggies..."

WBCN in Boston played the crap out of this in '70. A timeless memory (uhh what memory isn't timeless?)
