So Sad
Canned Heat Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This ole world's in a tangle
Dark clouds most everywhere
This ole world's in a tangle
Dark clouds most everywhere
Gotta free this air, but no one seems to care

Gonna tell all you people
The battle has just begun
Wanna tell all you people
The battle has just begun
Some black day we might not see the sun

So sad, we're had

People deep in and a-hiding
You know that they're afraid to see
People deep in and a-hiding
You know that they're afraid to see
They got blinded on, can't see you or me

You listen to me old folk
This old world gotta change
Listen to me you old folk
This world has gotta change
If the bombs start a-falling
There'll be no more home on the range

So sad, it's bad

We gotta take some consideration
And shake things up a bit
We gotta take some consideration
And shake things up a bit
Some say no, but still we must insist

Too much smoke
Too much gas
Too little green
And it's going back
Help us out or we'll shake you, yes yes yes

It's bad, you know we're had

Demasiado humo, demasiado gas

Here is a band that thrived despite tragedy. They had 2 hits when founder Al Wilson was alive -- Going Up the Country & On the Road Again. Everyone thought they would disband when Wilson died. But, their mission was the blues. They persisted. True believers know what I am talking about. This was one class outfit. Should be revered as highly as the Grateful Dead. Great musicians. John Lee Hooker made an LP with them. Little Richard sang a duet with them. Al Wilson & Bob Hite - RIP.

@reveddro319

and Canned Heat still plays to this day.......................

@dennymcfastlane8530

That's true 'blue'. But Alan was on this album, and died shortly after it's release. A shame because Wilson & Mandel made one Helluva duo with the rest of the Mighty...Canned Heat. R.i.P.

@Denis.d1157

Dude they were way better than the Grateful Dead

@lastrada52

@@Denis.d1157 - I could agree Denis, but don't forget Canned Heat was more a blues band than a psychedelic/later folk-rock band with spacey lyrics. To this day, I don't understand what lots of Robert Hunter's words mean.

But Al Wilson..."On the Road Again," "Going Up the Country," -- I think they're closer to The Band & Little Feat than The Dead.

@josevivar5157

Going Up to the country is no a Canned song

@THE-HammerMan

Adolfo de la Parra, the drummer, has kept the legacy and the band going on to this very day.
One of the greatest drummers ever-- and never ever mentioned or appreciated as such!

@WisdomSpeak1

Totally agree! Extremely underrated

@drumschtankonit

This is one of the baddest songs from the 70's , extremely underappreciated. I could never find a guitarist that even attempt this tune. the Stones almost hired Harvey Mandel in '75, he played lead on "Hot Stuff" the single. Impeccable!

@davidcouch572

One of the first albums (Future Blues) I owned. Still as relevant now as it was in 1970. I was 11!!!!
