Somethin' Else
Cannonball Adderley Lyrics
Uh-look-ah there
There she comes
Here comes that girl again
Wanted to date her since I don't know when
But she don't notice me when I pass
She goes with older guys from out of my class
But that can't stop me from-ah thinkin' to myself
She's sure fine lookin' man
She's somethin' else
Across the street
There's a car made just for me
To own that car would be a luxury
But right now I can't afford the gas
A brand new convertible is out of my class
But that can't stop me from-ah thinkin' to myself
That car's fine lookin' man
It's somethin' else
Hey look-ah here
Just wait and see
Workin' hard and savin' my dough
I'll buy that car that I've be wanting so
Get me that girl and we'll go ridin' around
The town will be all shocked with my white top down
I'll keep right on and dreamin' and-ah thinkin' to myself
When it all comes true, man
Wow! That's somethin' else
Look-ah here
What's all this?
Never thought I'd do this before
But here I am ah-knockin' on her door
My car's out front and it's all mine
Just a '41 Ford not a '59
I got that girl and I'm-ah thinkin' to myself
She's sure fine lookin' man
Wow! She's somethin' else

Interesting story about this album. I was told roughly about 25 years ago by a very, very reliable source, by the name of Chuck Niles, Chuck " Be-Bop Charlie " Niles, whose velvety baritone voice and music knowledge earned him the only Hollywood Walk of Fame star awarded to a jazz radio host. Formerly the Head DJ of KLON, a hip straight ahead/be-bop Jazz Station out of Long Beach/Los Angeles CA, who later changed their name to KKJZ. Well anyway Chuck told me that the Somethin' Else project was a Miles project that was originally to be produced and recorded under the record label that Miles was under contract to, with Miles as the front man and Cannonball as one of the sidemen however, during the time, Miles was involved in a contractual dispute with said record label, so Miles and Cannonball agreed release the album under Cannonball's record label, with Cannonball as the front man, to avoid any would be delays that would put the project release date in jeopardy .
I miss ole Be-bop Charlie. He would host Sunday morning brunch at the famous Lighthouse Cafe, in Hermosa Beach, California, yes home of The Lighthouse Jazz All-stars, every Sunday morning. He was one of the most recognizable jazz radio announcers in the nation, and is credited with making KKJZ one of the top jazz stations in the country. He died at the age of 76, in 2004 from complications of a stroke (RIP), Be-bop Charlie! We miss you!

Great story! I was wandering why a lot of the writing credit were for Miles, not Cannonball. It seems like his one and only Blue Note album, and what a classic it is!!

Legendary performers. Unfortunately, they have all departed. This recording is from one of the greatest erad if jazz.

I agree 100%. This is still way cool 60 years later! And the recording quality is superb. I believe it was Rudy van Gelder who was the recording engineer. It's got his fingerprints all over it.
