1. Cans is the heavy / power metal side project of Joacim Cans, Hammerfall's singer. The songs tend to have a heavier sound and darker subject matter compared to HammerFall. Touring with Cans did occur in Europe, and a statement was released through an interview that he (Joacim Cans), was very happy with the positive feedback he received regarding this side-project, and that he would make a second album in the future. After the release of HammerFall's album "Threshold" and the corresponding tour in the second half of 2007, Joacim stated he already had "some good ideas" on a new album. In 2013 Joacim released a second solo album under his own name, this time entirely in swedish and with a pop/swedish folk song approach, seperating it from the heavy metal side project, of which Joacim hasn´t mentioned since his statement in 2007.

Beyond the Gates
Cans Lyrics

Now I'm alone outside the gate
My eyes are bleeding visions fade away
The sun came to late
Time is here to seal my fate
In pain inside the purgatory flames
I'm turning away from the light of the day
I'll never go back, no I never will return
The flames are burning still inside my soul
Inside my soul
In a time were I was young, at a place of innocence
She stood there all alone, a devil in disguise
Inside a raging storm, my mind was set at ease
She said I was the one, all she said was simple lies
Behind these walls, nothing will remain
Madness and rage, oh I'm turning insane?
Beyond the gates
Beyond the gates of Hell
Tormented by her eyes, my life was in her hands
Just a puppet on a string, read to give in
I believe that after life, my spirit will live on
In a world, for me unknown, in a world still free from sin
Somewhere beyond the flames are burning still
Between death and life, it is a destiny's will
Beyond the gates
Beyond the gates of Hell
Heaven or Hell, there's a thin line between
Inside this inferno, where no one can win
Beyond the gates
Beyond the gates of Hell
The song "Beyond the Gates" by Cans is a tale of betrayal, regret, and redemption. The lyrics tell the story of a man who trusted a woman who turned out to be the devil in disguise. She led him astray from a place of innocence, and now he finds himself alone, tormented, and in purgatory. His eyes are bleeding, his visions have faded, and he is in pain inside the fiery flames. He begs the gates to open, to let him in and stay, away from the light of the day. He vows never to go back, to never return to the lies and deception. The flames inside his soul still burn, but now he hopes to find peace beyond the gates of Hell.
The story is a metaphor for the human condition, where we often find ourselves trapped in situations beyond our control, manipulated by those who seek to deceive and harm us. The gates represent the threshold between life and death, between heaven and hell. The singer is torn between his desire for redemption and his fear of damnation. He hopes to find a world beyond the flames, a place of peace and freedom from sin. The lyrics are poignant and evocative, capturing the essence of human struggle and the universal search for meaning and purpose.
