Goin' home, goin' home,
I'm just goin' home,
Quiet like some still day,
I'm just goin' home.
It's not far, just close by,
Through an open door.
Goin' to fear no more.
Mother's there 'spectin' me,
And father's waitin' too,
Lots of folk are gathered there,
With the friends I knew.
With the friends I knew.
Home, home, I'm goin' home.
Nothin's lost, all's gain.
No more fret or pain,
No more stumbling on the way,
And no more longin' for the day,
Goin' to roam no more.
Mornin' star lights the way,
Restless dreams all done,
Shadow's gone, break of day,
Real life's just begun.
There's no break, ain't no end,
Just a-livin' on,
I'm wide awake with a smile,
Goin' on and on.
Goin' home, goin' home,
I'm just goin' home,
It's not far, just close by,
Through an open door,
I'm just goin' home.
Goin' home.
The song "Goin' Home" by Cantus is a gospel hymn that talks about the concept of death as a journey towards home. The lyrics take on a peaceful and calming tone, as the singer describes the journey as a quiet and gentle one, with an open door waiting to welcome them. It's mentioned that the singer's work is all done, and the cares and worries of life are left behind, allowing them to have no more fears. The singer also describes being reunited with their mother, father, and other friends whom they knew, creating a sense of community and belonging.
The lyrics further develop the idea of death as a release from the troubles and sufferings of life. There's no more pain, no more stumbling or longing for a better day. The morning star lights the way, symbolizing the hope and promise of what's to come. The shadow's gone, and real life has just begun. The singer expresses a sense of being fully awake and alive, and the journey will go on and on.
The message of the song is a hopeful one, emphasizing the comforting thought that death is not an end, but merely a way of going home to a place of peace and rest. The song takes a religious approach to death and highlights the possibility of a joyous afterlife. The lyrics remind us that our loved ones who have passed away are still with us in spirit and await us when the time comes.
