Yeah he's pretty tough without using Shotgun Ice. I've beaten him three times in my lifetime without taking a single hit using just the X-Buster. That dash punch of his is what gets me every time. So unpredictable.

This stage killed my attempt at having fun with Mega Man X. I was able to beat Chill Penguin and Storm Eagle relatively easily, but here... With practice I can get to Thunder Slimer without taking damage, but Thunder Slimer himself is way too difficult. I spent two hours playing this stage and I only beat him three times, each with 1 HP left. This practically ensured I die at the turrets because there is literally NO healing between him and Spark Mandrill. I only got to Spark Mandrill once, and I couldn't beat him, even with his weakness. If I could get used to his fighting style I could, but I can't because they practically guarantee you only have one life when you reach him, and then you have to start over from the beginning and fight that godforsaken monstrosity Thunder Slimer again.

I know you can dash out of the slime but it takes two or three dashes, and I know you can destroy them with charged shots but it's never in time if he charges at you right after trapping you in the slime.

@AGameLegend If you mean the stage, yes. But if you mean the whole game, no. I've gotten to Sigma's Fortress but I can't get past the first part with the platform jumping and the annoying enemies flying at you hindering your jumping.

As a kid i had no idea you could switch weapons and stuff after beating bosses, i think flame mammoth, chill penguin and the octopus were the ones i was able to beat. Sting chameleon absolutely wrecked me everytime and i could never figure out why until i played the game like 11 years later lol

I love your no hit runs! Especially since you were cool enough to fight Spark Mandrill with the X-Buster and only using dash shots! As for what a mandrill is... look it up on wikipedia; they look quite similar to baboons! ^_^

Chameleon Sting was even more broken in Irregular Hunter X, because you could use any weapon while the invincibility was in effect, even the Hadouken. There may not be much reason to attacking when you can just run through things, but you could use it to trivialize boss fights even more than just using weaknesses.

This stage gave me the most trouble out of the Mavericks my first playthrough, though Sting Chameleon was the toughest boss to me.

Also Shotgun Ice can turn this fight comical with proper timing

@Rexaura888 It was brought back to an extent in X6 as well. When a stage was affected by "the Nightmare" seemed random, but the effects it had were dependent on which stages you'd already beaten. Nothing really superficial like in this game, sadly; it was things like darkening most of the screen, putting more obstacles in the way, or raining fireballs from the sky.

Spark Mandrill's stage is one of my favorites, the blackouts and mini-boss gave it a challenge. although the boss itself is not that hard, especially if you just add ice...>:)

I find that Bubble Boss is easier to defeat after beating Storm Eagle. I always make sure I beat Storm Eagle before I do this stage

In the PSP remake, they extended both that platform and the one in Boomer Kawanger's stage, so you need to use the Boomerang Cutter to grab them. Especially this one is made more annoying, because you have to throw the beapon JUST right.

You wanna know how piss easy Spark is? Every playthrough I've done, I looked at the wall as soon as I entered the room, launching S. Ice's at him a second after he broke out....I didn't even have to turn around one time...or jump.

With Vile, you have to jump out of your ride armour at just the right spot, and considering that you only have limited time in Vile's ride armour and that the screen is not big enough to show you exactly where you need to jump out from the ground... yeah, that can be, as you and Roahm put it, quite a thing.

@littlekuribohimposte Ugh, what a terrible design decision. One of the reasons I LIKE the first X game is because you can get everything with minimal back-tracking if you take the right boss order. The more mandatory back-tracking to 100% the game, the more stupid the whole thing feels (see X3).

@frenchboy643 I heavily doubt it. Do not have access to X7 and X8, and I absolutely despised X4 and X5. I found X6 playable-ish, but the Nightmare gimmick completely kills what would have been a pretty alright game.

Fuck this stage. Sections where enemies come onscreen and hit you within about a quarter of a second, a miniboss that's insanely difficult if you haven't beaten Storm Eagle first, extremely precise jumps over electricity, spamming enemies with ridiculous amounts of health over and over again... honestly, this is one of the most poorly designed stages of the entire franchise in my opinion, X or otherwise.
