Try to convince me that my dreams
Lie high out of reach
In the sky, in the clouds
I have to say, I think you're wrong
Why should I try to find a way to make me think and feel the same?
It's all about limiting your future
What the fuck are we tryin' to say?
I plan to enjoy and achieve within my lifetime
And no amount of negativity will be enough to change me
This time I stand and I'm not alone
This is my future
This is my priority
It may take a long time
But I'll be risin' up
Don't mean I think I tuff
But it means I move on
Positively, positivity
Don't look but see
Be aware 'cause shit ain't the way it has to be
Capdown's song "Positivity" is a powerful display of defiance against negativity and limiting beliefs. The first verse sees the singer being told by someone else that their dreams are unattainable and out of reach. The singer doesn't agree, and points out the futility of trying to make someone else think and feel the same way as you. It's about individuality, and not allowing yourself to be held back by the opinions and limitations of others.
The chorus is an emphatic declaration of intent. The singer plans to enjoy and achieve within their own lifetime, and won't allow negativity to hold them back. They stand alone if need be, but they won't be knocked down. The line "It may take a long time, but I'll be risin' up" shows a determination to succeed no matter what, and a willingness to put in the hard work necessary to achieve their goals.
