Unchained Melody
Captain & Tennille Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh, my love, my darling,
I've hungered for your touch a long, lonely time,
Time goes by so slowly and time can do so much.
Are you still mine?
I need your love, I need your love, God speed your love to me.

Lonely rivers flow to the sea, to the sea
To the open arms of the sea
Lonely rivers sigh, 'Wait for me, wait for me'
'I'll be coming home, wait for me!'

Are you still mine?
I need your love, I need your love, God speed your love to me

Overall Meaning

The song "Unchained Melody" is a classic love ballad that expresses the longing and yearning of the singer for the touch of their lover. The opening line, "Oh, my love, my darling," sets the tone for the entire song. The singer confesses they have been hungering for their lover's touch for a long, lonely time. The slow, measured pace of the song echoes the drawn-out sense of yearning, with the repetition of the phrase "Time goes by so slowly" emphasizing the feeling of time dragging on without the loved one near.

The lyrics also speak to the power of love to overcome any distance or obstacle. The lines "Lonely rivers flow to the sea, to the sea / To the open arms of the sea" paint a picture of the singer feeling separated from their lover, but comforted by the idea that they will eventually return to each other's arms. The final line, "God speed your love to me," expresses the singer's deep desire for their lover to return to them as soon as possible.

Overall, "Unchained Melody" is a moving testament to the power of love and the strength of the human spirit to hold onto hope and longing even in the face of separation and loss.

Yes you are so so right!! The 20 Years of Romance CD is awesome and I might also recommend the More Than Dancin CD as well, there is just tons of great music on both. This must have been done around the time Toni did Victor/Victoria hence the short haircut. This was on the RuPaul show I believe!
