Caldwell was replaced by drummer Martin Rodriguez on the group's second album, 'Sufficiently Breathless'. After that album, Evans decided to leave the band, causing the band to break up in 1973. Captain Beyond re-formed in 1976, with singer Willy Daffern, and Caldwell back on the drums. They released 'Dawn Explosion' in 1977, but broke up again in 1978.
The band re-formed once again in 1998 and released an EP, 'Night Train Calling'. But then they broke up in 2003 when Rheinhardt developed cancer.
Sweet Dreams
Captain Beyond Lyrics

Sparkling waterfalls
Creamy satin underneath
Distant voices call.
Do you see
Rainbow waters
That shimmer as they float
A never-ending show.
Yeah, mmm
I must be dreaming
Revelations, generations
I'll whiz right through them all
As vacuums hold me to their sides
The links of time so small.
Being here, being there
Why it's really awfully sad?
That we can't always stay within
This lovely wonderland.
Revelations, generations
I'll whiz right through them all
As vacuums hold me to their sides
The links of time so small, oh.
Being here, being there
Why it's really awfully sad?
That we can't always stay within
This lovely wonderland
Oh, yeah, yeah, ay.
The lyrics of Captain Beyond's song "Sweet Dreams" seem to describe a dream-like, surreal experience of the singer. The first verse sets the scene with tinsel blowing on a moonlit night, sparkling waterfalls, and distant voices calling. The second verse speaks of rainbow waters shimmering and tiny fairies waving their arms, creating a never-ending show. The chorus repeats the phrase "Revelations, generations, I'll whiz right through them all" with the imagery of vacuums holding the singer to their sides and the links of time being small. The final verse reflects on the sadness of not being able to always stay in this lovely wonderland.
It is difficult to pinpoint the exact meaning behind these lyrics, as they are open to interpretation. One possible interpretation is that the dream-like experience represents an escape from reality, a desire to be transported to a magical world where one can be free from the constraints of time and space. The vacuums holding the singer to their sides may represent the social and cultural influences that anchor us to reality, while the small links of time suggest a desire to move beyond these constraints and explore the infinite possibilities of our own imagination.
Overall, "Sweet Dreams" is a whimsical and poetic song that invites the listener on a journey through a magical world. Its dream-like imagery and ambiguous meaning make it open to interpretation, allowing the listener to attach their own personal meaning to the lyrics.
