Left for dead
Left to search within myself
Emancipation is my affliction
This heart feeds all my starved addictions
It's weakening but I like the taste
I like the taste
Digging deep inside
Have I gone too far?
Have I crossed the line?
You'll never know, never know
What it's like to be me
(Because I'm broken)
(Because I'm broken)
But you'll never know, never know
What it's like to be free
(Because I'm broken)
(Because I'm broken)
But I'm setting myself free
Free what you love
Free what you need
Fight for everything you believe
The road is long
You'll never know
Until you go you'll never know
What it's like to be
Be like me
Nothing is like it seems
You'll never know
Never know
What it's like to be me
You'll never understand
You'll never know, never know
What it's like to be me
You'll never understand
You'll never know, never know
What it's like to be me
(Because I'm broken)
(Because I'm broken)
But you'll never know, never know
What it's like to be free
(Because I'm broken)
(Because I'm broken)
But I'm setting myself free
Take
Break
Take, take, take
What is rightfully mine
And I'll break, break, break
Through the walls I've confined
I'm setting myself free from this
I'm setting myself free
You'll never know, never know
What it's like to be me
(Because I'm broken)
(Because I'm broken)
But you'll never know, never know
What it's like to be free
(Because I'm broken)
(Because I'm broken)
But I'm setting myself free
The song "Smirk" by Capture the Crown is a powerful and emotive portrayal of self-discovery and the struggle to break free from societal expectations. The lyrics describe a personal journey of exploring one's identity and fighting to be true to oneself, even if it means going against the norm. The singer in the song feels lost and abandoned, but rather than succumbing to the hopelessness, they dig deep within themselves and embrace their flaws, addictions, and weaknesses in order to transcend them. While they recognize that their path may be unconventional and even misunderstood by others, they are determined to break free from the constraints that society has placed upon them and live their life on their own terms.
The chorus of the song is particularly powerful, with the repetition of the phrases "You'll never know, never know/What it's like to be me" and "Because I'm broken," emphasizing the loneliness and feeling of being misunderstood that comes with being different from those around you. However, the chorus also holds the undertone of determination and strength, with the phrase "But I'm setting myself free" indicating that the singer is choosing to embrace their differences and live their life authentically.
Overall, "Smirk" is a poignant and relatable depiction of the struggles of self-discovery and the courage required to break free from societal expectations and be true to oneself.

@swaggerlevel90001 do you guys even know what real metalcore is? Metal like Metallica for example fused with hardcore like hatebreed it wasn't meant to be gay
When is was good back in the day
When we had, zio, Poison the Well, early days of the chariot, early days of underoath, I killed the prom queen, early parkway drive, early killswitch engage, unearth, early ill nino,
It's when they pulled out the v necks and started to use auto tune and took over warped tour it's when it tuned sour it was not all bad in its early days
And it's not all bad today I can enjoy a few still
Like for today, memphis may fire, and motionless in white because they are original
But then you got BS such as Atilla, Falling in Reverse, Asking Alexandria, Bring Me The Horizon and other crapcore bands
But there a lot of good metalcore bands out there
Don't diss the whole genre because they are good ones you just gotta look

This is proof that a band can tweak it's style without selling out or becoming irrelevant. Take notes Attila and Of Mice and Men (cough, cough)
