SCENE
CarD Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Stray dog, packing tape
Light lights up the room
And I'll be waiting here
On my knees
Begging you please

I know you'll tell someone
And everyone will know
And I'll be wasting here
Wasting
On my own
Diving for some toilet bowl sin

Well my king will come
Dressed in black
With my name
Tattooed on her back

You'll get
Arresting fee
And leave me all alone
Stuck in place I fear
Blank city streets
Look so discrete

I know I'll tell someone
And everyone will know
And I'll be wasting here
Wasting
On my own
Diving for some toilet bowl sin

Well my king will come
Dressed in black

With my name
Tattooed on her back

Overall Meaning

In the song "SCENE" by CarD, the lyrics paint a vivid picture of a desperate and isolated protagonist. The opening lines, "Stray dog, packing tape, light lights up the room," suggest a scene of abandonment and confinement. The use of imagery like the stray dog and packing tape adds to a sense of vulnerability and entrapment.

The following lines, "And I'll be waiting here, on my knees, begging you please," demonstrate the singer's plea for mercy and forgiveness. It seems that they have made a mistake or wronged someone, and they are now desperately seeking redemption. The repetition of the phrase "Begging you please" reinforces their desperation and longing for forgiveness.

As the song progresses, it becomes evident that the singer's actions or secrets will be exposed. They express their fear of being exposed, with the lines, "I know you'll tell someone, and everyone will know." This fear of being judged or ostracized creates a feeling of isolation and loneliness, as they imagine themselves "wasting on [their] own."

The mention of diving for "toilet bowl sin" implies a self-destructive behavior or being consumed by their own guilt. This line adds a somber and dark layer to the song, emphasizing the internal struggles and demons that the singer is facing.

The chorus, "Well my king will come, dressed in black, with my name tattooed on her back," introduces a character that is symbolic of salvation or redemption. This king represents someone who will rescue the singer from their misery and carry their burden. The tattoo of the singer's name suggests a deep and permanent connection between them.

Overall, "SCENE" explores themes of guilt, redemption, and the longing for forgiveness. It delves into the emotional turmoil and isolation that can accompany our mistakes and the fear of the consequences that come with them.

As a hongkonger, I am quite happy to see people finally realize they should find some real Cantonese speakers instead of a few random Chinese and try to fool the audiences they are speaking Cantonese. In the past, Hong Kong people appeared in the Hollywood movies always speak in Mandarin but we actually seldom speak Mandarin. Please remember Cantonese is very different from Mandarin. In Macau and Hong Kong, the local citizens only speak the former language. I hope every Hollywood directors wont make this mistake again.
