The truth
Carbon/Silicon Lyrics

The truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth
The truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth
So help me
Truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth
The truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth

Through the blacked out windows of the police van
You can see your last flash moments as a free man
What did they expect you to say
When you was hoping it would go away?

The truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth
The truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth
So help me
Truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth
The truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth

Got involved by mischance ended up in grief
Cleared out the house then phoned up your brief
All this stress is making me ill
I've had enough so do what you will

In your dreams in your fantasy
The judge and jury and the court agree
You should go free
You should go free

In your slumbers it may be so
But if you don't tell them what they wanna know
Wanna know
What they want to know

The truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth
The truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth
So help me
Truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth
The truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth

As the gates slams behind you in the red light glare
You'll be asking yourself if you really dare
Still in truth you can't say nothing at all
You rack your mind, but still can't recall

The truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth
The truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth
So help me
Truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth
The truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth

In the booth they used a burning light?
They expect you to put up a fight
Put up a fight
Or be polite

With circumstances well in remand
If you don't give them what they demand
What they demand
What they demand

The truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth
The truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth
So help me
Truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth
The truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth
So help me
Truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth
The truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth
So help me
Truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth
The truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth
So help me
Truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth
The truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth

The truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth
The truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth
The truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth
The truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth

Overall Meaning

The song "The Truth" by Carbon/Silicon is a commentary on the pressure placed upon individuals to tell the truth, even when the consequences may be dire. The lyrics stress the importance of being truthful and honest, but also acknowledge the difficulty and fear that may come with telling the truth in certain circumstances. The lines "Through the blacked out windows of the police van, You can see your last flash moments as a free man" and "As the gates slam behind you in the red light glare, You'll be asking yourself if you really dare" evoke the image of being arrested and the fear and uncertainty that can come with this experience. The repetition of "the truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth" emphasizes the importance of being completely honest and transparent in these situations.

The song also references the legal system and the pressure that can be placed upon individuals to act a certain way. The lines "In your dreams, in your fantasy, The judge and jury and the court agree, You should go free, You should go free" highlight the idea that individuals may feel that they are in the right and will be vindicated by the legal system, but the reality may be much harsher. The chorus repeats the phrase "so help me," which is often said when someone is sworn in to testify in court, further emphasizing the connection to the legal system.

Overall, "The Truth" is a commentary on the pressure that can be placed upon individuals to tell the truth, even when it may be difficult or dangerous to do so. The song stresses the importance of honesty and transparency, but also acknowledges the fear and uncertainty that can come with telling the truth in certain situations.

Saw these at the Isle of Wight Festival 2007, we were up front near the main stage from midday till the end. What a surprise to see Mick Jones and the band walk on stage mid afternoon, i wasn't expecting that, i hadn't heard of Carbon Silicon. Excellent gig. I got the album on the following Monday.
