Cry Little Sister
Carfax Abbey Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A last fire will rise behind those eyes
Black house will rock, blind boys don't lie
Immortal fear, that voice so clear
Through broken walls, that scream I hear

Cry, little sister - Thou shall not fall
Come, come to your brother - Thou shall not die
Unchain me, sister - Thou shall not fear
Love is with your brother - Thou shall not kill

Blue masquerade, strangers look on
When will they learn this loneliness?
Temptation heat beats like a drum
Deep in your veins, I will not lie

Little sister - Thou shall not fall
Come, come to your brother - Thou shall not die
Unchain me, sister - Thou shall not fear
Love is with your brother - Thou shall not kill

My Shangri-Las
I can't forget
Why you were mine
I need you now

Cry, little sister - Thou shall not fall
Come, come to your brother - Thou shall not die

Unchain me, sister - Thou shall not fear
Love is with your brother - Thou shall not kill

Overall Meaning

The song "Cry Little Sister" by Carfax Abbey is believed to be an interpretation of the relationship between two brothers, one of whom is a vampire. The lyrics suggest that the vampire is trying to stop his sibling from following in his path and to protect him from the danger and loneliness that comes with a life alone. The opening lines, "A last fire will rise behind those eyes; Black house will rock, blind boys don't lie," are seen as a reference to the final confrontation between the brothers, with the "fire" representing the intensity of their emotional struggle.

The lyrics also suggest that the singer is speaking to someone he views as a sister, urging her not to fall into the same despair and danger as he and his brother. The lines "Cry, little sister - Thou shall not fall; Come, come to your brother - Thou shall not die; Unchain me, sister - Thou shall not fear; Love is with your brother - Thou shall not kill" indicate the singer's desire to protect the sister-figure and to prevent her from being pulled into the same darkness that he and his brother are trapped in.

Throughout the song, there are references to loneliness, isolation, and the desire for love and companionship. The lines "Blue masquerade, strangers look on; When will they learn this loneliness?; Temptation heat beats like a drum; Deep in your veins, I will not lie" suggest that the singer is struggling to come to terms with his own isolation and the desire to connect with others, while also recognizing the danger that comes with giving into his own temptation.

Overall, "Cry Little Sister" is a powerful and emotional song that speaks to themes of loneliness, isolation, and the desire for love and connection.

In my opinion this is by far the best cover. I love it. It's the only one that comes close to being as epic as the original.

@clareborror2230

+Axxwound Absolutely agree! Seasons After did a cover of this song and it just didn't pack the same punch as the original or even this version.

@GothicElf68

I think this is the best version of the song I have heard, including the original (original is second best,) My opinion, of course.

@skornd713

I was working in Hot Topic when this version got released on the Asleep By Dawn album and once I heard it playing I freaked the hell out from the first note. I totally agree that this is the best version. It's that heavier/metal touch that it has.

@vaultaholic

@shisedoll

Same here. I'm in love with this cover and the one from Marilyn Manson.

I've listened to this song now for five hours straight. My voice is hoarse from singing along, and yet...it's still not old yet.

Very well done cover.
