Moon Beach
Carhop Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Waves crashing in
Tides are low so I feel low again
Sand itching my skin
Stare at the moon
Knowing it will be gone so soon
Temporary like you
Don't take me back to Moon Beach
Time it slows up so quickly
No one knows
Who comes and goes
Know I should leave but Mary Shelley's pulling me back in
Takes me for a swim
Salt in my eyes stings a little but I do not mind
I'm better off blind
Don't take me back to Moon Beach
Time it slows up so quickly
No one knows
Who comes and goes
Don't take me back to Moon Beach
Time it slows up so quickly

No one knows
Who comes and goes

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Carhop's song "Moon Beach" convey the feeling of being stranded in a temporary moment in time, almost as if in a limbo. The singer of the song, caught up in the illusion of the beach and the waves, feels low again because, just like the tide that ebbs and flows, everything in life seems to be transient and fleeting. The sand itching his skin adds to the sensation of discomfort, and the moon, which serves as a metaphor for the passage of time, will soon vanish. In this cyclical nature of the beach, the singer feels trapped, a prisoner of the impermanence that surrounds him.

The chorus repeats the plea "Don't take me back to Moon Beach" as if to escape from this transience, this temporary moment that slows time so quickly. It is almost as if the singer fears losing himself to the illusion of the beach, where people come and go without leaving a trace. Still, he knows that he should leave, but the call of the beach, embodied by "Mary Shelley," pulls him back in, asking the singer to surrender to the waves, even though they sting his eyes. In the end, the singer prefers to stay in this moment of suspended reality, blind to the passing of time and the ebb and flow of the tide, unable to move on from this fleeting experience.
