They're Taking the Patriots Away
Carl Klang Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
La voz no tiene sentido
El silencio lo es todo
Pero en su propio olvido
En sus ojos apagados
Hay un eterno castigo
Pertenese al sueño de un destino
Encerrado en el tiempo
A perdido el valor
Para escapar de su celda
Pero sin ilucion
En sus ojos apagados
Hay un eterno castigo
El heroe de leyenda
Pertenece al sueño de un destino x3
The lyrics of Carl Klang's song They're Taking the Patriots Away reflect a sense of despair and hopelessness as the singer describes a hero who is trapped in a state of isolation and forgottenness. The repetitive refrain "En sus ojos apagados hay un eterno castigo, el héroe de leyenda pertenece al sueño de un destino" (In his faded eyes there is an eternal punishment, the legendary hero belongs to the dream of a destiny) emphasizes the theme of imprisonment, both literal and metaphorical, that the hero is experiencing.
The opening lines "Siemore en la oscuridad la voz no tiene sentido, el silencio lo es todo pero en su propio olvido" (Always in darkness, the voice doesn't make sense, silence is everything, but in his own oblivion) suggests that the hero is unable to communicate with others and is trapped in his own thoughts and memories. "Encerrado en el tiempo a perdido el valor para escapar de su celda pero sin ilucion" (Trapped in time, he has lost the courage to escape his cell, but without hope) reinforces this idea of a hero who is stuck in a state of despair, unable to find a way out.
The use of the word "patriots" in the title suggests that the hero may have been a symbol of patriotism or resistance at some point, but has now been forgotten or silenced. The song seems to be a lament for the loss of this hero, and a critique of a society that has failed to honor or remember its own legends.

I miss Carl. He was an interesting guy. I remember when we recorded at Jonathan David Browns recording studio many of the songs from this album. I actually designed the first cassette tape cover. And he stayed at our place while he was recording at Jonathan's for about two weeks. I'm sorry to say that I saw the side of him that was really sad. Rest in Peace Carl. Your words will live on forever.
