Dakota
Carlos Mendez Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

In Carlos Mendez's song Dakota, the lyrics talk about the desire for a home in heaven and the knowledge that everyone has of it. The Dakota is mentioned as it seems to be at the singer's feet after others have left and taken flight. There is description of a sky full of lights which seems to be the symphony of the cement representing the sadness of a people who are in mourning. A friend who walked by saw what happened, but it is better not to say anything and instead have a whiskey. It is said that suddenly the world becomes illusory, psychedelic, absurd and hits us with the truth.

The lyrics then talk about how the words of some genius, who is just as human as us, will be opened and how we will grow on the ground like a tree that is reborn. The songs that hit humans deep inside us will then open up. The song is a beautiful composition that talks about the human desire for a better world, the suffering that we all go through and the hope for a better future. The lyrics are deep, and the music complements it perfectly creating a piece that everyone can relate to.
