Santana has was an avenue named after him as well as a statue of a guitar in the city where he was born (born in Autlán de Navarro, Jalisco, México) to honour him. The family moved from there to Tijuana In La Calonia Libertad, the city on Mexico's border with California, and then San Francisco, USA. Carlos stayed in Tijuana but joined his family in San Francisco later and graduated from James Lick Middle School and Mission High School there.
Most of his musical career has been spent with Santana, the band he formed in San Francisco in 1967. His music underwent large changes in 1973 when he was introduced to the spiritual leader Sri Chinmoy, by fellow guitarist "Mahavishnu" John McLaughlin. After this he adopted the title "Devadip" which he still uses. In 1998 he formed the Milagro Foundation along with his wife Deborah, which supports disadvantaged children. Later Carlos and Deborah divorced, but the Milagro Foundation is still alive and well.
Other huge influences of Carlos Santana are both Miles Davis (with whom he maintained a big personal connection), and John Coltrane, who unfortunately passed away in 1967.

Don't know what to do
Lay out in waiting
Lord for the noon
Pass so slowly
Time without you
I can't see why
So much to look by
So many things to be
Can't keep looking
In and out of me
She looks at nothing
Someone you all have seen
She never cried
As I watched her leave
Try to help me
Find the change in me
Oh, oh, oh
Try to help me
Find the change in me
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...
The lyrics to Carlos Santana's song "Taboo" depict a sense of restlessness and confusion that is often experienced when a person has lost touch with something essential in their life. The music is mellow and introspective, and the lyrics reflect this tone. The opening lines describe the singer's state of mind - he is not sleeping, he doesn't know what to do, and he is waiting for something to happen. The passage of time seems slow, and he feels lost without the presence of someone he cares about.
As the lyrics continue, we get a sense that the singer is searching for something elusive, but he doesn't know what it is. He can't see the world around him clearly, even though his eyes are open. He knows that there are many possibilities and opportunities out there, but he can't seem to grasp them. The woman he is thinking of is also lost in some way, and the singer watched her leave without being able to help her. He longs for someone to help him find the change he needs to move forward in his life.
Overall, "Taboo" is a song about feeling stuck, disconnected from oneself and the world. The lyrics evoke a sense of longing and restlessness that is relatable to many people. The music adds to the introspective mood of the song, creating a beautiful and melancholy piece that invites the listener to reflect on their own experiences of longing and searching.
